Got a really good deal on release day and needed to be able to bitsream DTS HD master audio via HDMI.

I also needed a coole running card and good power consumption due to the i7rig being connected to my projector in my cinema room for XBMC

The higher end cards are not needed for the res I play or ammount of gaming I do.

You can use the GTX480 as a stup up in the kitchen to reach high cupboards

Seriously though, I don't think Zotac have a stup up program so selling 2nd hand is the way to go if you really want to make the swap to a GTX580

2) You miss a bigger e-penis
3) You lose 'up to 30% performance increse in Vantage'
4) You know you want a GTX580 anyway so why postpone it, take the loss on the GTX480 now

To be honest, so far the 480 has munched up gtaiv and arkham asylum, it can handle all my current games.

Dood, seriously, that 480 is a piece of garbage now. TBH you might get another few months out of it as a physX card, but that's about all it's good for now.

Get the 580, and dump that 480 sharpish.
