7700k delided CPU delided

What cooler you using? If a lower end air or AIO it could be reaching those temps. A high end 240 AIO or Nocuta NH-D15 is really what is suggest to keep the 7700K cool at higher overclocked speeds. And if you are in a silent case with lots of padding etc that will also be an issue with decent air movement.

This is shown by the listing showing the Asetek 240 AIO as minimum really. I would say if you are within that region though that it is also stated you only need 1.39 Vcore for 5.0GHz and the temps maxing around 70 degree would be right. You could try dropping your Vcore at the 4.8GHz setting first to see if temps drop as well as you are likely to be able to get them down to 1.32Vcore. (not guaranteed and just based on feedback of the 7700K online).

Currently using a EK Predator 240 so this should be fine. With the delidding I would hope it would be a lot lower :s. Will have a play with the settings though...

Yeah OK that seems spot on cooler wise. I would say you should be in the low 60's but I think you need to look at upping your GHz at the same Vcore because that's what is making the temp difference. Get your clock to the 5.0GHz and stable as per what it should be starting low with Vcore at 1.32v and go from there.

Once that is done and assuming all running fine recheck your temps then. If once it is running at 5.0GHz and it's over 70 degree then I would say maybe something up with either cooler or chip. Fan profiles may depend also. Likely on stock I would assume at moment but it might be worth tweaking.

When gaming at 5.0GHz I would expect to see the temps in the high 40's tbh.

Do people really care about fancy packaging?

It goes in the bin, lol.

Some do, so don't. Even if you don't care about fancy packaging, you'd likely not want your CPU to be rattling around inside a cardboard box during transit. I said it a few weeks ago when this issue was mentioned, put the CPU in a clam shell (<£0.50) and surround the clam shell with foam to stop it moving around. It's not rocket science, and it may have prevented CPUs arriving with lids detached. It's quite surprising that OCUK have been sending out binned CPUs without decent physical protection.

Yup I'm a sucker for it.

To me it is the first thing that a customer sees when opening the outer wrap. That is also my first impression of the company I'm dealing with, and could be considered as a reflection of the care and thought that they provide, if needing their customer service. All of that might mean tiddly squat but I do feel comforted when my goods arrive in a well presented and protected packaging.

I just bought two glass screen protectors for my LG phone and they both only cost a fiver in total, including delivery. The wooden type box with its hard foam cut outs, detailed instructions and extra cleaning clothes were very impressive.
To me that went a long way to make me feel the company I bought them from cared about their presentation and protection. I'm more likely to recommend and deal with them again, just on the packaging alone..!
All that would have changed if the glass screens were rubbish though, thankfully they weren't.

The packaging looking awesome isn't really a big deal, what matters is the delid an applying the new tim and reattaching the top is done to a high standard.

packaging does need improving but only because the cpu rattles around inside them little white boxes.

when I was taking mine to the pickup point I could hear it moving about. it's not ideal.

I'd be more concerned that the packaging could cost as much if not more then the 2 glass protectors, OCUK don't need to start getting fancy cardboard cases with bespoke foam cut outs , simple putting the cpu's in a plastic clamshell like the retail chips come in and in a smaller box which wasn't meant for a hard drive etc.

I don't see why having taken feedback it's a negative thing to get packaging sorted? Ultimately it will be a few quid per chip to make it both safer and reflect the premium feel 8Pack is clearly about.

Good to see the response to feedback and as always good service!

Finally been able to test mine today, would it be expected in testing that in CPU Z core 0 usually has a higher max temp than the rest?

I.e. Shows a max of 80 when other cores show max of say 65, is that difference to be expectedly or should they all be closer?

Looks like you've got I had. 80-85c on one core at stock, 100c at 1.35v. Seems like there's been a really bad batch of these in regards to delidding quality.

That is a little disappointing, have created a thread in customer services forum and will see how it goes from there.

Just running a handbrake encode, all cores moving in range of between 90/96% with max core temps showing as:

Core 0 - 67
Core 1 - 56
Core 2 - 54
Core 3 - 55

Should core 0 be showing closer to the others? Under any load it's between 10 and 20 degrees higher than the others.

Wow the attitude of the some staff in this shop is absolutely terrible.

Just rang up to find out how this was going to proceed. (if they will be redeliding this or sending another binned correctly)

Not only is the chip I got hot hot Hot I paid for one binned to 4.9 they sent one binned to 4.8... Not a big deal really but still feel somewhat a little robbed.

I'm now told it's going to take 3 to 5 days for them to even test the chip.. When I explained the above and asked why there isn't some sort of fast track on this as there's been clearly issues with the batch that have gone out... My reply was a guy with a extremely condisending attitude saying "as I have explained multiple times (once! before I even told him exactly what's going on) it will take 3 to 5 days as the terms of the website states... The same people who are on the phone are the people who test the items we can't test things when we're on the phone".... In other words *******

Horrible.... . feel like going down there so angry.

Horrible little man. feel like going down there so angry.
Are the 4.8 binned ones basically the rejects? 78% can hit 4.9 GHz according to SL so presumably almost all will hit 4.8 GHz anyway. If it runs super hot too that really is a waste of time, since that's the only reason to bother delidding (and one of the reasons I wouldn't support Intel by buying one of these CPUs).

I get your frustration and I would have asked to speak to the manager at that point tbh.

However one thing that has clearly been stated a number of times the 4.8GHz and 4.9GHz are the same chip. There is zero difference because they were already tested to 4.9GHz and just being sold at 4.8GHz.

At the same time why are you expecting it to be fast tracked? Although I know some have asked Ian to look at them direct and so since you have brought such a product you could have asked to speak to him and reference this forum topic accordingly maybe?

Have you put a complaint in and or trust contact either @NegatronBear or @8 Pack to sort it out?

Think I might just cancel my order and go elsewhere clearly was a mistake buying a pre delided product

No I haven't put a complaint in can't be bothered spent enough time on this issue now.

Reason I expected it to be fast tracked erm just expected them to be a little more helpful given the situation that's all.

They haven't done 4.8GHz chips for two weeks now and all are 4.9GHz or more. But yeah any hot temps means it either wasn't delidded at all and in wrong batch before sent or done badly. It appears to be one batch done badly. Maybe someone new to the process? Or having a bad batch of thermal compound could also be an issue thinking about it. I have had that before and so did a batch of CPU's for me and friends and when I tested I found they were all hotter and so got new paste that sorted it out.
