8 Packs 4ghz 32m Challenge win full Haswell 4770K Bundle.

This would be a great idea yeah... I personally think that as it stands the competition is a little silly.

So you keep saying.

OcUK hold competition to win free stuff and all people do is complain. Honestly it's not some kind of entitlement or right to enter. And I'm typing this from my main computer right now which is a laptop running an ULV 1.2GHz which completely counts me out. So what?

Oh my word so much moaning!

I for one think this sounds like a great competition! I'd definitely like to enter in a week or two when I have a little more free time.

I don't know much about overclocking and dabbled a little once and got my 2500k to 4.4 easily then stopped because I wasn't confident enough in my ability to go further. Now there's a competitive element to it and it involves a bit of further research and learning about RAM timings etc. I'm looking forward to getting it back to 4GHz and having a play. I don't think my ram is good enough to win since its only cheaper stuff but who cares? Good competition OcUK, I appreciate it and think its a good idea. If I learn how to get better performance out of my current system and in the process have some fun then I'm already a winner in my opinion :)

Look out 8 Pack I'm coming for your world titles ;) (that or I might just be posting for help in the overclocking section)

Good luck everyone who enters!

Questions for 8 Pack

I would guess if you can't make the CPU speed of 4Ghz that being under would be OK ?

Are Haswell's disqualified ?
Seems odd that to win one you use one.

Mine is 6.34

Can you beat it.:D

No chance haha, just ran it at day to day settings (low RAM voltage/1600mhz/2T etc.) and 4.73Ghz and got 7m31s. I imagine I can knock it down by using the same RAM settings and killing background processes etc.

Will give it a go later, can't see me getting more than 4.73 on air though.

I did have a slightly faster run at 4Ghz and forgot to screen shot it, derp:

If you do have another go, you may find this interesting to try for

I get what all the pepole moaning are saying, it kind of does favour people with high end Kit, however, there are many comps on here which do not, and I approve of 8pack trying to coerce people on an OVERCLOCKING forum to actually do some proper overclocking (which, let's face it, hardly any of us have done since Sandy came out, as it's all so easy to get a 4ghz CPU clock these days). 8Pack loves tweaking RAM, and wants us to love it too!

I might have a little pop later, but doubt I'll get far with 2500k + 1600mhz c9......maybe I can convince the Mrs to lend me her samsung green for some benching! (sorely regret not picking up 16GB for £65 a while back, and not just for this!). still nice to see some of the intra-platform competition this is breeding!

The rules are the rules are the rules are the rules....deal with it or leave it, if there was a competition that excluded i5 2500k users you'd be all over that like a rash, likewise if there was a competition where AMD would be the benefactors you would be moaning "oh noes i canne win!! so unfairs!"

8 Packs word is final.

Like I said, you don't understand.

Let me summarise it one last time before I give up entirely.

The less in need of the upgrade you are (with me so far?) the more likely you are to win.

I appreciate the competitions OcUK hold, I just don't think this one has been well thought out.

Lots of people share this view. Why single me out because I was one of the first to state my opinion?

Sorry don't see the point of this, a competition for people who already have high end kit to win more high end kit.

People that don't have a K processor are effectively ruled out.

I agree. Dispite myself holding some cups and medals on HWBOT for superpi times they were with a q9650 and an i7-950 and will be blown out of the water by a later gen cpu.

I had to work for weeks perfecting timings to get those high scores and will be pointless for this competition.

As other people have already said. The winner of theis upgrade is not going to be the best overclocker who understands his system and can tweak the best out of it but the person who has the most higned system already costing hundreds of pounds and could afford a Haswell upgrade and is probably already intending to buy one.

I think my best time with the i7 was around 7min 30s but running at almost 5Ghz but looking at the hwbot chart, running at 4ghz even with fast memory speed and timings I could only expect a time around 9 minutes so abolutely no point even trying.

Should be a competition to see who can get closest to 11 minutes :p

Or more sensible, the slowest 32M pi time, surely that would be the most deserving :p

What intra platform competition? There isnt one. We all know which cpu will win so it just comes done to a few people to tweak their memory and see who is best at tweaking (although that might still go to the person who spent the most money on memory but at least there is some skill there)
