8800 320mb GTS Feb 12th.

I'm not denying that the GTS offers better bang for buck than the Pro (although I do think it's close).
Mate,

They are worlds apart.....

The 8800 GPU is one of the biggest leaps in GFX perfromance since the 9700 pro!

The 8800 series destroys the x1950 xtx

Well, there's a difference of opinion here, as I think that it's given us a jump around the same as what we normally get, 9800XT -> X800XT or 6800U -> 7800GTX.

The 8800 series destroys the x1950 xtx

Agreed, the GTX has been consistently close to double the performance of the X1950XTX, and double the price.

I'm talking about the 512mb version. ;)

HIS ATI Radeon X1950 Pro ICEQ 3 TURBO SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

£134.99
£158.61 inc VAT

40 quid more will get you a 8800 GTS :D

INterestingly enough Easy im pretty certain an 8800GTS 320MB will be had for about £20 more :) which in my eyes is a good thing!

Remember guys £199.99 is for an "OC" version i.e pre clocked so its safe to assume £179.99 in my eyes for a non "OC" version! You will see this all over the place

As I commented on earlier, the 180 mark is perfect for me. I dont mind overclocking manually, and I certainly don't care about the warranty (as long as it is 12 months of course). I will just get the cheapest card that I can, if it dies in 12 months, I will replace it with the 9800GTS or whatever :)

cheapest gtx £364

cheapest xtx £243

Double £243 = £486  hardly £364 :p

Even if you doubled the XTX in XFire you would not get close to the consistent performance of a GTX and even then it costs over £100 more and uses more power :D

I was using the Loadsamoney method of doing maths. ;)

And also, the XTX in Xfire will equal or even slightly better the performance of the GTX, that has been shown in a fair few benchmarks. Although it may have been worth it at launch, it's certainly not now.

quit ** bantering :p the pro will drop in price now, meaning it will take over where the 7600GT and GS currently reign, and 8800GTS will be available for £160-170 at cheapest, meaning people will be advised to scrape that little bit more cash together for the card instead of opting for x1950xts and pros.

Im going to get a none BFG card and OC it myself, lifetime warranty doesnt fuss me, 1year should be sound, 3year is great IMO :D

I borrowed a mates master card when I owned an x1900xtx and the performance increase I got was pants  across many games. I guess I was playing at 1680 by 1050 and not 2560 by 1600  (who plays at that res  and if you do I'd hope you'd rather choose GTX SLI ;) )

EDIT: just looked again at at the res I play (roughly 1600 by 1200) on basically all the games i.e. BF2, OBLIVION, PREY, HL2 EP1 the GTX does win...yay

You mean the CPU limited resolutions right?

And yeah, i'd take the GTX without a moment's doubt now.

LMAO

ROLF

Not just my res, but quite a few res's up to the point hardly nobody plays at i.e 2560 by 1600.

Please max out the GTX on R6 VEGAS (then for the killer add AA) or on any demanding new game and you will see GPU limited, RES is only 1 factor.

Even on FEAR at that res 16XAA 16XAF you will not be CPU limited ;)

But isnt VEGAS badly coded anyway? SLI rigs have problems from what I have read.

I personally would recommend keeping the previous gfx card I bought, as long as its the same format. I find that the GFX card is the most likely component to go pop, given the hammering it gets.

So this way I always have my last card to pop back in while I RMA my latest card. Ok its never quite as good, but at least you can carry on playing while you wait, drop the resolution down a little, then when you card returns its like going .... oooh thats cool all over again.

This could be a great option for me, its definitely at the right price! I haev been nothing but impressed with the 8800 series... and i am sure it would last me quiet a while!

Look what happened to the x1950 XTX, everyone was saying its totally worthless, do not buy it as the 8800 GTS was only about £40 more, well look at the price of the cheapest x1950pro = £117, add £40 to that and you have £157, now that puts it just shy of the 320mb GTS cheaper brands by a few more pounds, so how is the pro different from the XTX, if the XTX was totally worthless because the 640mb GTS was only about £40 more, then the pro is totally worthless, as the 320mb GTS is probably gona be about £40 or so more, no difference at all, the BFG is probably the dearest brand, and its pre-overclcoked as well, how much will the standard clocked ones be, and the cheaper branded ones, OcUK may have a branded one, that wont be £199. :)

x1950pro's will have to drop to about £70-£80 probably to make them still worth buying now, i can't see ATi doing that, theres no point at all buying even the cheapest pro for £117 when the 320mb GTS is only gona be about £40-£50 more, doesnt make sense, if it did then everyone would have still been buying the x1950 XTX's instead of the at the time £40 odd diff for the 640mb GTS, they wern't.

If your looking at a new card now your only option is Nvidia, only consider ATi again when they get their next gen r600's out, as now there is no point at all in buying any ATi old gen card.

Hi there

Your looking at things from your perspective which anybody in their right mind would agree with but that is not how things work in this industry.

Were still selling quite a lot of X1950 XTX's which are at the cheapest £199 +VAT.
X1950 Pro 256MB sales will hardly be affected by the launch of the new 320MB GTS, but it will hurt X1950 XT 256MB and X1950 Pro 512MB Sales.

For ATI to compete in an ideal world they will drop the X1950 Pro 256MB by approx £10, the 512MB by approx £20 and the old X1950 XT 256MB needs to drop by approx £50. This will secure ATI's sales, they don't need to give their products away they just need to be reasonably priced.

It like people are still buying FX62's when for less money you can buy an E6600 which is quicker, but people still buy the other part.

I can't see why anyone would still want a pro if they only knocked a tenner off, not now, but as you say they will still sell as that was my perspetive, and everyones different. :)

Even if they do drop the prices though, their sales are still going to get hit, and it will still hurt as you say.

Gibbo, I am not sure if you are able to say this or not, see feel free to just say NDA to me, but I was wondering, will the 320MB cards be fine on games like Quake 4 and the new Command and COnquer at 1680x1050? or havent you had time to try them out yet?
