8800GT Ramblings Thread

Damian, why won't it go past 2ghz? What motherboard do you have?

Nice clocks on the gt though :)

Matthew

My motherbored is a GIGABYTE GA-G33M-S2 and lacks a 1:1 divider for the memory on any 800fsb CPU so when my cpu is at 250x8 (2ghz) my memory is at 830mhz on a 3.33 divider and my memory doesnt really clock any higher so neither does the cpu :(
Really though im thinking i should be hitting more in 3DM06 without the cpu clock with GT at those speeds, so im installing vista fresh to see if that remedies it. If it doesnt my computer is shiny and fast again atleast :D

Guys: -

Should i remove the old nVidia drivers fully before instlling the new ones or will it just update them for me? and if so, should i remove all of nTune/Forceware etc?

Hhm, looks like these cards work better with Intel over AMD. I had an 8800GTS 320 that was overclocked, tried a single 8800GT at stock and there was only a 500 point increase.
Or was your GTS 320 running at stock too?

This probably explains things a bit better...

Asus branded 8800GT.

3dmark06 scores;

Stock with CPU in sig - 11506

700/1000/1755 with CPU in sig - 12190

BFG 8800GTS OC 320 stock with CPU in sig - 9702

So roughly a 16% increase at stock, 20% overclocked from my stock 8800GTS OC 320MB (although that was a factory overclocked card).

Just some info on the noise of the card.

My rigs pretty quiet, the loudest fan is a 18Db on a fan controller which is normally running on half speed. idle the card is very quiet, couldn't hear it above the rest of the system at all just like the GTS.

Even Overclocked It has not got any faster. In a lot of the benchmarks I've actually set the fan speed. At full wack it is a little noisy (70-100%) sounds like a 6000rpm fan.

I've always uninstalled the Nvidia drivers, rebooted then installed the new ones.

TIP:
If unsure, do not uninstall everything with the word "nVidia" in it. This will cause you to remove all the drivers for your nVidia based motherboard and as such, your ability to connect to a network or indeed, the internet, to download new drivers. Also, do not store motherboard boxes containing driver CD's in your fathers room, because he smells and snores, and entering his room at 1am is neither big nor clever, especially if he sleeps "au naturale".

I make these errors so you don't have to.

Having read with interest the forums for a few months and decided to upgrade graphics from EVGA 640mb 8800GTS to 8800GT after following this and other forums/reviews decided to join - mainly to mention that I found the simplest way to sell my 8800GTS was at CEX - might not be the 'best' price but sold there and then for cash.
Was able to do the upgrade for net cost of £10 (got a Zotac 8800GT - which , so far , has impressed me - not least the build quality).
Approx. 15%-20% improvement at stock and 10%-15% after o'clock BUT have not yet pushed the new card (highest so far 700/2000).
To all who 'rambled' my thanks - the current upgrade was more informed and MUCH more entertaining !

At what date is everywhere going to have these actually in stock?

Need to know how long im going to be without a graphics card

Hey AgedIdiot, welcome to the forums! :)

Yeah the 8800GT hype has caused quite a stir and I haven't been so caught up in a graphics card release since um. . . . . the X1950Pro Last year.

The thing that is hitting the spot for me about this card is it appears to offer some meaty performance for a great price. Obviously the cost has been driven up at the moment due to it being a fresh release but give it a few weeks etc and I fully expect to see this card selling for under £150.00 which would make a lot more people think "Hey I can afford that!"

I missed the delivery man yesterday so hopefully I should get my new card later today, literally bursting at the seams to get it installed and spend the weekend benching and gaming lol! :D

I ordered a BFG 8800GT OC from Ocuk this morning, still awaiting security validation though :( .

I hope it gets validated soon, parcelforce pick up at about 3pm, well atleast thats what time my last parcel was picked up.

Looks like I'll finally be removing m 2900XT from my system once and for all.:D

Woohoo, got my sexy Asus 8800GT today, damn it comes in a big box.

Im not sure, but i tried the drivers that came supplied with it on Crysis @ Ultra High, was a lot more playable than the GTS, a lot smoother, less stutter etc. But now ive installed the latest beta drivers, the performance seems the same as the GTS again, with added stutter. Wierdness.

But its damn cool :).

Nice to see fresh stock of 8800GT's in at OCUK. But I'm holding out for the
EVGA's till next week, hopefully we shall have them in by then.

Yeah, I saw the BFG's as well. Also going to wait for the EVGA top-end one.
