8800GT Ramblings Thread

Mine arrived, installed and hot

Runs Crysis brilliantly all at high, 1680x1050 etc. Going to order a pack or two of ramsinks (mainly for other chips on the board) and install my Accelero S1.

Well call me crazy but I just bought another 8800GT from Gainward while waiting for the inno3D one to RMA, hopefully this one manages better than 6 hours.

let me know how it goes. I have an S1 on my x1950 pro + 120mm silent fan. Be nice if it fits and cools it enough. Be interested to know your temps

I put an 80mm fan blowing on mine - shaved 20dgs of the idle temp and about 15dg off the load temp.

Pretty much what I saw when attaching a slow 92mm fan to my 6800le copper heatsink. Huge temp drop which allowed me to overclock big time :D

I just bought one of the BFG's that came into stock. Fitted into machine, power on and..............
Just a black screen and you hear the mobo keep resetting, i'm hoping it's the psu too weak (enermax liberty 400w) and not the mobo not supporting it. I just noticed when I put my old card back in it has reset the bios etc so it's gotta be a power issue ???
Can anyone confirm this and what would be the best psu (and cheapest) to replace the enermax with?
Thanks guys :)

When you get it going, be sure and check it with GPU-Z 0.0.9

Been discussing it in the overclocking and reviews thread.

Seems my BFG 8800GT OC isn't that at all.

I phoned up BFG in the States (damn the expense!) and told the girl that my BIOS differed from another BFG 8800GT OC user, that my clocks were wrong, and that for Subvendor it appeared as NVIDIA instead of BFG.

She said it's possible the card had been tampered with, as the clocks should definitely be 625Mhz, not the 600 I'm getting, and she said the BIOS was the wrong version!

Something to look out for.

V1N.

Couldn't resist, got the dremel out and bodged a few extra sinks to use on voltage regs.

Idle stock cooler - 66c

Idle Passive S1 - 46c

Load (Crysis) stock - 95c

Load (Crysis) passive S1 - 71c

Not bad :)

Why is so many GT's having such high idle and load temps?

I'm overclocked to 700/1050 and it takes ages for it to even get to 80 degrees, aint got to 84 which is the temp of the 8800GTS 640 Gainward that I had @ 620/1.96.

With the GTS and the side of my case on my crappy case on, my idle temp is around 49-50, load been around 80 so far with stock cooler and crappy case and overclocks.

That doesn't sound too good V1N :O
Still no joy getting mine to work, flashed mobo to latest bios (abit an-m2hd) and unplugged everything from the board/psu. Still sits there rebooting itself and won't boot past a black screen. Some people reckon this psu will run a 8800gtx, so now i'm getting a bit worried. Any suggestions ?

I agree, i was worryng a bit about the temps after what everyne has been reporting, but mines idling at 57, and underload only hits about 72-74, which is the same as my old 320mb GTS give or take a degree or 2, and its well quiet to.

To be fair my room is quite warm and I have very low airflow through my case (2x1000rpm Nexus) with the exhaust being blocked by a rad.

Just stuck a 120mm fan on the Accelero and it's idling at 37c now.
