8800GT Ramblings Thread

Thanks for replying steve258 :)
I'd be more happy if it had posted and then decided not to work later on tbh lol. PC's always end up in confusion and expense whenever I decide to upgrade the buggers.

Was there any beep from the case speaker? Mine gave me the "no GFX card found" beep after several failed boot attempt.

Have you managed to RMA the card ok?

Sent it this morning so will see what they say on Monday. But they have ran out of inno3D GTs so I doubt I will get a replacement soon. Might just phone them up and ask for refunds instead, as I've ordered another GT from the same shop today :D

Can someone measure the mounting hole centres around the core please? I need to see if my old MP-1 waterblock will fit these cards.

MP-1's mounting holes are 53mm from centre to centre and 75mm diagonally from corner to corner.

Steve there was no beep or anything from the pc, the monitor doesn't come on either. The pc switches on but just the fans spin up and the keyboard lights flash once, then after about 20 seconds they will flash again and the fans spin up all over again. There is never the beep of it posting or any response from the monitor though (the power lead is plugged into the card btw). Really puzzled as the psu has 40 amps on the 12v rails apparently, so I would expect it to boot at least even if it locked up due to lack of wattage.
BTW did you get your replacement card yet, or are you still waiting on delivery to see if it works?

I've only sent the card out this morning so still a while yet to get a replacement. Besides as I said they've run out the inno3D 8800GT so I don't expect to get a replacement anytime soon.

If you have another mobo or your friend to test the card then that'll tell you if it's the card or the motherboard. 40amps is that from dual rail? Your psu should have no prob what so ever so you can rule that out.

My PC speaker sometimes does a double beep after booting to my desktop but nothing seems wrong as yet.

Mine is also an Inno3D and seems to be running fine at 750/1000/1800.

Stock Fan @ 57% (almost silent)

Idle temps 44Deg

Load under crysis 67Deg

Couldn't resist, got the dremel out and bodged a few extra sinks to use on voltage regs.

Idle 66°C - Load 95°C - OEM HSF
Idle 46°C - Load 71°C - Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 (Passive)

Not bad :)
Thats awesome mate, thanks for sharing! :)

Please can you include some more info/pics of what/how many heatsinks are needed to keep the onboard components cool.

Of course only an 'Overcooler' gets excited by temp reductions alone, I must admit I am happier when my hardware is running cooler but the real aim is to see how it affects your overclocking!

I wonder if this super cooling you have slapped togther will let the card run even faster!

57% is almost silent?! I found it incredibly annoying at anything over 30%, 50% was really loud to me.

Just the two, two groups of 3 VRMs at the back that are covered by the stock heatsink.

Car is at 700/1700/1966 atm, not really got round to any proper testing.

Same, some peoples hearing cant be as good as ours so it sounds quiet to them :p.

So is it easy applying these 3rd part coolers? I was thinking of getting one of those S1 things just for the hell of it but always worried about applying paste.

Paste is pre applied, apart from the crappy ramsinks it's easy.

id be more anoyed about sitting in a room quiet enough to hear a pin drop.

Have you seen my speakers? I had them on playing Crysis and I could still hear it.

Brilliant finally got my card after missing City-Link yesterday, feel like I've lost a day but then again the card wasn't meant to be hear until next week, all things considered I'm actually ahead?

Looks like a sweeeet little bit of kit and I am just trying to calm down after a busy week to get it installed. Fingers crossed its not DOA or something unlucky like that!

May just run a few last benchies with the HD 2900XT that been installed for a massive three weeks lol! :D

Oh yeah one last thing, what drivers are people using? shall I just download the latest nVidia's and see how I go? (been a while since I ran an nVidia, 6600LE actually!). :o

Zotac 8800GT

I thinks thats a wise approach, nice to get a feel for the hardware running at stock, check the temps, play a few games etc. Then when your satisfied everything is tip-top time to let her rip! :D

Its nice seeing a boost in benchmarks and stuff like that but the *real* benefit to me is being able to notice a game is smoother or you are able to crank the eye-candy a notch etc.

Good luck, haven't got me card installed yet so I will be joining you all soon!

Good stuff but I am an information sponge and I need some data lol! :o

i.e does that cooler come with a bunch of ramsinks already? and then you have dremmelled up some ghetto VRM sinks? (the two you highlighted?).

Thanks in advance!
