8800GT Ramblings Thread

rolf at ppl trying to sell their gts's

" im currently putting my prized LeadTek 8800GTS 640mb graphics card for sale. The card itself is in perfect condition having only bought it myself only 3 weeks ago on a whim and id estimate its seen around 20 hours use, so its pretty much brand new. unfortunately after my cars disastrous M.O.T failure yesterday something had to go :( and it was my computer which took the hit."

What games have you tested your 8800gt with?

I've tried
-TF2 , CSS and COD4
Source games play no different to gts320

Just downloaded FEAR Persus demo, but yet to install

Do you rekon Crysis demo is worth it? i'll only be able to play on medium right @ 1680?

Ohhh yes yes yes! :)

Medium on Crysis is actually a lot better than Medium on most other games I've played. As for High and Very High I could not get it playable the way I like it on any resolution!

Haven't got my 8800GT up and running yet but heres some Crysis results using a Radeon HD 2900XT

I am using a DELL 24" with 1920x1200 and I found it was nice gameplay at that res and medium however I dropped the res down to 1680x1050 (still medium) and that gave me a nice 51fps average (38fps min and 63fps max).

Switching up to High was a total no go as was using any form of AA, still I appreciate that the game engine will be around for years and will take future gen hardware to really max it out.

I will post a similar chart for the 8800Gt once I get it running proper! :o

[edit] just for the record I saw a few Crysis benchmarks using a wide array of modern cards and surprisingly the HD2900XT was faster than everything (maybe even the ultra?) however as you can see once you go for higher ground it all goes a bit pete tong for the Radeon Flagship?

I dont get why nvidia launched this card. They have basically made all the other redundant. WHY????? ATI are probally not gona even scare them with the 3800 series.

Really really pleased with this card, just ran Crysis and was getting 35-40 FPS on high at 1680x1050, with an E6300 @ 2.1Ghz

May do some volt moding when mine comes and put it under water.

Im hopefull that the D-TEK Fuzion block will be enough.

I'm using the corsair 520w, no issues with power, CPU overclocked and GT :)

I knew I should not have said It:eek:, my 4 month old Corsair 520watt has just gone up in smoke,

Turned on PC just got the fans going ,and nothing else, then smoke started coming out with a horrible burning smell.

RMA to OC time :(

On my laptop typing this, no gaming for me.

Hi folks,

Over the past few days this place has been a great resource for info. However, I have came to a bit of an impasse and not really sure how to proceed. I have listed a few points below and if anyone could take a moment to help, I'd really appreciate it. Not sure if this is the correct thread but considering it is primarlily based on 8800gt questions, I thought it best to put in here......

1) 8800gt should it ideally be ran in Vista? (32 or 64?). I had been intending on buying a new copy of XP to install on a Q6600 machine but may decide differently depending on what you guys say.

2) I got the Q6600 machine a few weeks ago and I checked with the guy who built it what the psu was, he said it was a 500watt unit and they used it in their machines running a 8800gts. I am a little dubious as to whether it will be fine to run a 8800gt but if its 500w then maybe I am just a little bit bonkers!!

Cheers.

edit: Unlucky Troop  :(

edit x2: I meant to say why would you go 32bit vista instead of 64? Daft question probably.....

!!! Blimey.. Very surprised. Just after I said to Mav about them lol. (I have the same psu and no issues at all.) Did it take anything with it?

You won't be wanting the card right now then? ;)
