8800GT Ramblings Thread

Hi folks,

Over the past few days this place has been a great resource for info. However, I have came to a bit of an impasse and not really sure how to proceed. I have listed a few points below and if anyone could take a moment to help, I'd really appreciate it. Not sure if this is the correct thread but considering it is primarlily based on 8800gt questions, I thought it best to put in here......

1) 8800gt should it ideally be ran in Vista? (32 or 64?). I had been intending on buying a new copy of XP to install on a Q6600 machine but may decide differently depending on what you guys say.

2) I got the Q6600 machine a few weeks ago and I checked with the guy who built it what the psu was, he said it was a 500watt unit and they used it in their machines running a 8800gts. I am a little dubious as to whether it will be fine to run a 8800gt but if its 500w then maybe I am just a little bit bonkers!!

Cheers.

edit: Unlucky Troop  :(

edit x2: I meant to say why would you go 32bit vista instead of 64? Daft question probably.....

Go with XP, if your gaming its far more ideal at the moment.

What Brand is it, idealy so we can determine what rails it uses and /amps it has on (each) rail. it should e good enough to power it but if its a lower quality power supply i would buy a new one.

What he said^^
I'm changing from Vista to XP for my games - having driver probs in Vista. Everything works but performance is said to be so much better under XP. Maybe this will be addressed in Vista SP1.

Cheers lads. I'll stick with XP.

RE: PSU, I just opened the case up and its a "Win Power - ATX500". I get the feeling it may be a cheap and not so cheerful brand :( Any advice would be great.

Really really pleased with this card, just ran Crysis and was getting 35-40 FPS on high at 1680x1050, with an E6300 @ 2.1Ghz

Can you run the GPU timedemo on HIGH in your crysis/bin folder and post what you got.

With my [email protected] and GT @ 700/1000/1700 I get

its back now - sorry; stoopid moment ;):D

I have them all the time :o

Anyway, I take it you're not a fan of the winpower :D I will indeed get shot of it but your suggestion is out of stock with no ETA.

What about THIS? Or any viable alternative for running the 8800gt. Cheers mate :)

I have a BFG 8800GT OC in my hand, don't know whether to keep it or send it back :S... My 2900 is great (although not as good as the GT) but I feel im just spending money for the hell of it.

Im not sure what to do lol.

Keep the GT and get rid of the 2900 to fund it.

Cheers LoadsaMoney :) I thought I would need a 500w < to power the 8800gt, thats why I was only looking out for them. But you have far too many posts for me not to take your advice on board (:D) so you would vouch for that over the 550w Huntkey (I originally typed Huntley!! )

And thanks again dr sarf....that thread seems to be positive towards the Huntkey!!

Decisions, decisions......and I haven't got a clue!!
