8800GT Ramblings Thread

Cheers LoadsaMoney :) I thought I would need a 500w < to power the 8800gt, thats why I was only looking out for them. But you have far too many posts for me not to take your advice on board (:D) so you would vouch for that over the 550w Huntkey (I originally typed Huntley!! )

And thanks again dr sarf....that thread seems to be positive towards the Huntkey!!

Decisions, decisions......and I haven't got a clue!!

I would buy a 500w Enermax Liberty

I have a BFG 8800GT OC in my hand, don't know whether to keep it or send it back :S... My 2900 is great (although not as good as the GT) but I feel im just spending money for the hell of it.

Im not sure what to do lol.

Straight swap for my 2900 :D. Ooooh crossfire :p.

EDIT: OK gonna go with the Corsair :) Any need to go for the 520w version or would I just be spending ££ for the sake of it if the 450w is suitable for the 8800gt?. Thanks for your patience guys.

EDIT X2: Thanks for the suggestion Easyrider, but I'd prefer to buy from OCuk and they don't stock that.....

I knew I should not have said It:eek:, my 4 month old Corsair 520watt has just gone up in smoke,

Turned on PC just got the fans going ,and nothing else, then smoke started coming out with a horrible burning smell.

RMA to OC time :(

On my laptop typing this, no gaming for me.

Update

Yahooo!!!!!!!!! My Corsair 520 survived

Back on-line with my old AMD4000 with the Corsair 520, You can all Sigh a big sigh of relief , how it has survived I don't know, it smells well burnt.

It seems I have some sort of dead short on, either my Motherboard Gigabyte DS3R OR NEW 8800GT

Tried another PSU on the above system and it did the same straight away,

Tried the Corsair 520 in this old AMD4000 system and it works as it should

What do you think guys, motherboard or GT Dead ??, turn comp on nothing happens, hold the "ON " button on and PSU starts to Smoke , not good whatever it is.

I will take the GT to try in my mates comp tomorrow, as I fitted a 8800GT in his system today.

Ok a quick and easy question what are Zotac like as a brand in terms of reliability, RMA's etc?

Anyone got anything good or bad to say about them?

Yeah the Corsairs are great PSU's, highly recommended on here, anyone asks what PSU, its always Corsair, the 450 will easily handle the GT as its got 33a on the 12v rail, and the GT wont need anywhere near that, the box of my GT says minimum 400w PSU, with a 12v of 26a, and im running a 520w PSU with a single 12v rail at 28a, and its powering it fine, also powered my GTS fine which uses more power. :)

Its a new manufacturer to us all, I dont think you will get any experiences.

They are supposed to have better ram than the average GT but results dont support that.

Oh man my inno3D 8800GT has been sat at my Uni address since yesterday waiting for me, I'm travelling back tommorow morning to post off my 1950XT I just sold, going to install the card and download Crysis (was waiting to play it until I had the power to run it).

But alas, I have to do an essay tommorow so no gaming for me :'(

Well they make 2 models of 8800GT 512, both are overclocked - the non AMP edition has core at 660 and shaders at 1600 whilst the AMP edition has RAM ocd to 2ghz and core/shader @ 700/1700.

I have the non AMP edition and that ocs 700/170/2000 just fine.

Thanks,

they are still relatively unknown though.

I have the non AMP version and I have not found the maximum clocks on it yet. I currently have it sitting at 720/1750/950.

My card does not like the memory being clocked at 1000mhz as that was the first thing I tried.
