8800GT Ramblings Thread

Guys

When i boot my system, my Inno3D GT 512 makes a huge whirring sound, high pitched. Not high pitched enough to be the capacitors but it's deffo the fan. It's sounds like it's really going for it (like it would never do that much work in a game). Do you reckon this is a problem? It lasts about 10 seconds and then i never hear from the card again. It's practically silent (yeah the fan still works :P) i guess i just cant hear it over the case fans.

Anyone else get this? Could it be a power issue?

Raikiri..

Would you reccomend changing the fan to an aftermarket model? I've never pulled a graphics card apart, and it took 3 attempts for me to sit my CPU/HSF properly the first time round. IE, i'm a bit crap.

If i did replace it and something go wrong, if i was to put the stock HSF back on would they be able to tell i'd taken it off?

I would yeah, the Accelero S1 is what I used.

Highly unlikely they would be able to tell, as long as you keep all the thermal pads intact.

So whats the general consesus then if you're in a position to upgrade? Wait for the GTS? I'm tempted by the GT now as it fits my budget, but if theres something much better on the horizon I can hold off for a few more weeks. Depends how much the GTS will cost and whether the price of the GT falls and becomes an even more attractive option.

It all depends on pricing.

The GT is a great card for the money.

So it all depends on how much the new GTS will cost and how much performance it has over the GT.

If its 275 for an extra 3FPS in games then it will not be worth it imo.

The balance has to be right.

Someone has said on here that the GT might drop around £20 or so in a couple of week or when the GTS comes out. So if you can wait until then....

Im slightly worried, im getting a new mobo and everything soon (probably an abit ip35-3 or something), but since all these cards are made for pcie 2.0 will not get the full potential out of the cards running them on 1.1 boards? What sort of fps difference are we talking about here?

ok cheers, so theres nothing to worry about at all? With the 8800gts and gtx revisions and stuff?

gts revision is probably nothing to worry about, as stated earlier in this thread (This being rhumors) that the new rev gts (GTS SSC or something) based on g92 will only have 3-5 fps difference in most games, will most likely contain a 256bit bus. it might come in 640mb model to increase its attractivness but overall if its a wealthy increase in price the gt will still be a better buy by the standards of now.

It wont be a 256 Bit card with 640mb ram lol

does anyone know when these cards will be in stock again? i mean when will i not have to worry about them selling out? because im guessing the next few deliveries will go as soon as they are listed on the site, i wont have the money for a couple of weeks so do you think they will be easy to buy by then?

yes definitely in a couple of week is will be easy to buy. ATIs new card launches on the 19th Nvidia will want 8800gt's in stock and available
