8800GT Ramblings Thread

Haha that looks like the biggest load of ****** i ever seen!!! :o
Yeah, prolly overpriced as well, a normal 80mm, 92mm or 120mm fan would cool it better for a fraction of the price.

lol at "Turbo Module is an ultimate cooling add-on for enthusiast gamers. The Turbo Module increases the potential power of Accelero S1 and S2 with enhanced cooling performance under extreme quiet operation. Turbo Module helps boost up the GPU and memory overclockability, squeezing more graphic performance than ever before."

Marketing speak for the lose :o

Surley a Yate loon tie wrapped on would be better? edit: Dutch guy beat me to it! lol

Im seriously considering ordering a Accelero S1 and strapping a Yateloon to it - since seening such high temps... 75c on my GTS 320 would make my arse twitch in panic...

Well after giving up on ocuk getting any stock in since I have been without a computer for over a week now (at decent prices as well since yesterday I noticed cards going up by £5 in a an hour:eek:) I ordered a pre-oc MSI 8800GT in stock last night for £152 inc VAT and delivery.

Comes at 660/1650/1900 stock with DIRT (full game) and The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar with one months free subscription.

Glad to see MSI not cashing in on the supply and demand market and selling a overclocked card with two "good" games for a reasonable price.

Wonder why ocuk don't stock MSI cards?

It's £5... same price as a yateloon fan. I have some Yates in my room, but wanted the quiter, lower profile solution without needing to resort to using a fan controller. Plus 120mm fans will have a larger dead spot.

I've been and fetched a Zalman VF900 for my furnace today. It's dropped the temperatures down from 58/86@50% fan speed (idle/crysis) to 43/63. The Zalman is much quieter set at around 2000rpm than the stock nuisance was too. On a sidenote though i've not bothered putting the ramsinks on the memory as i've heard they aren't really needed anyway. Can anyone confirm or shed some light on this just to make sure?

5 quid is a decent price but are they quiet?

Well just sent a webnote to the good fellows at OcUK to see if they have any ETA for the OcUK 512MB GT. I hope they can tell me something or I might as well cancel my order and see what the new GTS is like. :(

Well call me crazy but I just bought another 8800GT from Gainward while waiting for the inno3D one to RMA, hopefully this one manages better than 6 hours.

OK received the gainward this afternoon and it worked perfectly, so it was definately the inno3d one that's borked and not my mobo playing up. Have to say though the packaging and content is even less than inno3d despite costing £10 more.. didn't even give you a static bag for the card like.

Think I'll just run it nice and cool at stock for the moment lol...

No anti-static mag?? even mine came with an anti-static bag lol.

Did yours come with TRA?

^^ I was worried someone would say that! Just my luck... Don't think I can be bothered to send it back though just because it's used for 1 or 2 days, if even that!

But everything's brand new though not even a mark on the box and it certainly doesn't look like it's been in the post for a few times.

It's good to see you finally got a working card Steve, I wouldn't worry about lack of a static-proof bag as long as the card's fine :)
