8800GTS 320MB Results so far....

i have not got or used a 8800gts oc 320mb (will soon hopefully) but from what i have been reading and looking at the 302mb i am sure it would be much better don't forget the memory is GDDR3 so it will be better and faster even though there is less

Is it worth changing from an X1800XT 512Mb to a 320Mb GTS ? I game at 1680 x 1050 and have to admit that the drop in memory does concern me a little.

In that case get the 640MB version.....Shame in current games there is no real world difference that you would be able to nice if you comparing the 640MB version and the 320 version side by side...Plus its £60odd dearer.....

Well I've now decided not to buy this card, basically because adding lots of AA at the resolutions I play at (1680x1050 and 1920x1080) seems to kill performance somewhat. Now it's either a 640mb GTS or a GTX or wait until March. Hmm..

lol - Thats fair enough - But tell me why you are wanting to buy the 640MB version over the 32oMB version?

I think he covered that already, "basically because adding lots of AA at the resolutions I play at (1680x1050 and 1920x1080) seems to kill performance somewhat."

All depends on the price doesn't it? The 640mb version will allow max AA with no slowdown compared to the 320mb card. I can get a 640mb card for about another £55 or a GTX for another £125. Or I can just wait for 8900/R600..

Obviously its up to you mate,

It just seems a bit mad to spend an extra £55 on a card that is essentially not worth the 'bang-for-buck' ratio of improvement. You'd be better off spending it on something else imo - But it is your £££ dude :)

Equally though if I bought the 320mb version and then found I had to make compromises at the resolutions I play at I would be far from happy. Right now I'm leaning towards the GTX or wait until March though.

I think anything up to 1680x1050 will be fine with the 320MB GTS - Anything over that you should either get the GTX or wait a couple of months. Good luck in whatever you decide :)

I did just that, but gaming at 1280x1024 here, no difference at all i can see in having less memory, this thing just decimates the x1800, ive got Oblivion maxed, with 2xAA/16xAF HDR on, Supersampling on etc... and its no different to how it ran on my x1800, apart from its miles faster, and the image quality is miles better, but the lesser memory aint making a jot of diff. :)

On the x1800 in Oblivon with same settings, although no Supersampling as they aint got that, the maximum frame-rate was lower than the minimum im getting on the GTS. :D

whahey, I've managed to clock the geil to 846Mhz (taking me to 3.8Ghz on the proc). I've also squeezed an extra 100Mhz out of the cards memory (now at 630Mhz/1900Mhz). Although, as you can see below, it hasn't effected my results in a big way. Infact it's only a couple of hundred points more than when I was at 3.2Ghz on the proc.

£327 including VAT.
Oh, tempting. I think i'll wait a few weeks for sub £300 to come about though. :)

Just went from a 7900GTO to a 6600GT. 2142 with all the bells and whistles gone just isn't the same, so I don't know how much longer I can hold out.
