8800GTS 320MB Results so far....

Cheers,

Looks like I'll go for the 320mb version then. I need a pill for my headache after reading through all this thread and trying to decipher what I needed!!

Whats the general opinion of the best one as some run different clock speeds?

Will I notice a big difference between this and my 7950GT (512mb)

gaming at 1280x1024, 320mb GTS is fine, thats what im running here, cuts through everything in its wake, absolutely stonking cards for the price.

Quick question,

Mine is arriving tomorrow at work (basically due to you raving about it LoadsaMoney!!!!! That and Bit-Tech's review :D ). Will I have to reinstall Vista when I install it or just download and install the latest vista 64bit drivers? As far as I know I'm still using the drivers included in x64 vista so will I have to uninstall them?

Hi

I got my BFG 8800 OC 320 today VERY pleased with it, I have tried OC it with ATItool with auto find.............now once an artifact is found will this program stop or will it continue?????

I have had it upto 650 on the core on auto, I got to that and got scared and aborted it.........the temp hit 82c....

your help is appreciated....

Autofind keeps going till it starts artifacting/machine hangs afaik.

Thanks for the reply..........whats the best program to use for stress testing my OC??, is it still futuremark 05/06?

My last card was a 6800 ultra, so I have been out of the game for a while.........

thanks

Can someone help me please?

I'm using the latest version of Ntune (5.05.25) but the clock frequency sliders are still greyed out even after I enable "custom clock frequencys".

BTW It's the bfg 320mb model (I couldn't resist it any longer :D).

[Edit] I've installed coolbits but I can't find an option in the display properties for it, downloading Rivatuner and ATI tool atm, hopefully one of the two will give me some joy. I'll post my 3DMK results when I'm all sorted. :)

Cant help on that im afraid as im using XP, doubt you would need to reinstall Vista though, probably just be able to download and install the latest drivers for it, im sure someone will be able to clarify though. :)

Great choice of card, you'll be well pleased, i still aint got over how good they are.

Alright the sensible hat has won out. You speak sense about buying for now rather than buying for what's too come so Iam gonna buy a 320MB GTS sell my old stuff, recoup most of the cost and stick a little bit aside for an aftermarket cooler when one finally appears.

Oh the BFG one but not from here I found it cheaper else where, before anyone asks.

I think you can just install the Nvidia drivers bud. When I plugged in my 8800GTS for the first time, Vista (I'm using x64 too) installed its own drivers automatically, but I was able to install the Nvidia drivers without trouble at all. Have fun :)

Thats all I wanted to hear GTX speeds for 199 quid! give and take 32 stream processors :D

Yup I've see a couple of cheapos at the 188 mark but best ocuk it for 200.

How about SLI'ing a couple of GTSs for the price of a GTX  [EDIT :FORGET THIS UNLESS YOUR INTO BENCHING AND NOT ACTUAL GAMING :D ]

[EDIT] : Having had a bit more of a read through this thread and rather liking loadsamoney pointing out that if you're buying specifically for DX10 then just be cautious.

@jrodga2k5 : EXCELLENT Thread and write up mate.

Whitey, it seems my card has hit a wall at 630/1800, which is a shame as once the proc is clocked passed the 3.2Ghz stage I only score (approximately) 100 points Per 100Mhz, I guess at 630/1800 the card doesn't have much more to give when a [email protected]+ is up its ass. Also, no matter how hard I try I can't get this ram past 824Mhz, hence I'm limited to a 3.7Ghz oc while I wait to get the cellshock back (although the extra 300Mhz will probably only give me about 300 extra marks anyway). *ramble finished...

Anyhow, here are my current 05 and 06 scores for anyone who's interested.

3DMark06=10602

3DMark05=18305

/Bizarre runs off to read up on 8800gts pencil modding... the gaming can wait lol. :)

If Crysis does indeed come out in March, how old are the G80's gona be then, 5+ months, exactly, thats ancient in graphics cards, bound to be newer ones out in that amount of time as they come out every couple of months, 8800's are old hat as the 8900's are coming now, and even they are gona have ZERO Dx10 games to play on em. :)

Good post Lodsa....All I would add is that if Crysis does make it out by say june/July time I honestly think the 8800's will be more than capable of giving the game a good run for its money at 1280x1024 with all the DX10 tastyness!!! I don't think I'll be upgrading my graphics card again for probably 12 months...

THanks mate first of all :D

Im looking forward to the first direct x 10 implementations tbh but why would I get the 320mb version in that case?

Well it offers me some of the best direct x 9 performance at a price I can afford, it has direct x 10 capablity when it is released so I wont really be left behind. The neighsayers so far have mentioned 320mb wont be enough, if thats the case why will nvidia realease 256mb parts which are much slower than the 8800gts counterparts?

Moving onto games in directx10 however, think about it for a second, its gonna be like extra effects you can turn on initially, like in Crysis! Im rpetty sure the directx10 renderer in this game will make it look a little bit better but I think the comparison initially will be hard pressed.

Later on in the year however the technology will be exploited more and then we may need something with some more vram, but really @ 1280x1024 i think we are safe in that region for a good while to come

Agreed! Of course it's all speculation at this stage but for the benchmarks we have seen so far I think the 320MB GTS will perform admirably when all the DX10 games start to appear...

Fully agree, absolutely no point releasing 256mb Dx10 cards if they aint gona be able to use it, don't see the point myself. :D

Dx10 games are gona take time anyway, will anyone still be on a G80/R600 when we have about 6x games with Dx10 features, man how long do you think thats gona be down the line, jesus by that time they are going to be absolutely ancient, as as i said above the G80 is already 4x months old now, and it has got ZERO Dx10 games, 4x months!!!, jesus its ready to be put out to pasture, and as ive said before G80 is going to be the slowest Dx10 card even before you can use Dx10, so why buy it for that, 89's are coming now, and still ZERO Dx10 games, but that wouldn't even make a difference anyway as theres not even any ******* drivers!!!. :D :D

Man theres gona be uproar if Crysis comes out in March, but is going to be totally useless in Vista (and tehrefore Dx10) as theres no bloody drivers still, everyones going on about all these upcoming games and they aint got any damn Vista drivers for em.

And so it wouldn't make sense for them to release in March then would it ?

BTW How complete is Vistas implementation of DirectX 10 is it final ?

In total agreement with your comments mate along with jrodga2k5.
