970's having performance issues using 4GB Vram - Nvidia investigating

NV have no morals the have just greed for $ at the expense of their customers...at the end of the day a company is only as good as its customers

This is why you have to be a complete idiot to still try to defend them.

I returned mine because I was getting stutter in gamers. I guess many of the Nvidia fanboys will be waiting for a driver fix or are so used to that happening with Nvidia cards that they don't even notice any problems.

So instead of forcing Nvidia's hand to try make a software fix,or even release a fixed model hardwarewise which can switched for the current cards, people just spend more money on a GTX980??

Thats like saying,oh my D600 had the shutter oil issue. But don't worry Nikon refund my camera- I will buy a D800 instead!! Solved! :SARCASM:

Looks like Intel must be the customer service champions of the PC parts world together with Logitech.

So you replaced it with a Kodak retractable lens pocket camera?

It has the same number of megapixels... it must be the same!

You bought into Nikon system in that case... would you really dump all the lenses you have built up over decades as a photogropher just because a single body has an oil issue?

No...

First... Nikon repaired & replaced faulty units with D610.

Second... those who couldn't wait didn't lose out in upgrading to a D800... they got a better camera

Third... collect underpants

Fourth... ???

Fifth... profit

So basically if the problem had not been uncovered you would have kept the GTX970. Instead when the problem was uncovered and it was down to Nvidia being less than truthful about the specs, you just rewarded them with even more money. Yet,I bet many here would be the first to have a pot at people who buy Apple products!

Not at all sir, if it hadn't been uncovered I'd be amongst many still scratching my head wondering why the performance nose dives in reproducible scenarios.

The question was there, the only thing missing was the explanation, because on paper the initial specs couldn't explain why we were experiencing the issue and owners of 980s were not.

At the end of the day, if someone wants to reward nvida for screwing up with the gtx 970 by buying a 980 thats their business. Its not my money their wasting its theirs. Speaking for myself i bought the 290 pcs+ because i would no way in hell reward a company for screwing their customers over period. The people that do buy the 980 though i get to laugh at instead, that youtube video just cracks me up:D

As long as my money has'nt benefitted nvidia im more than happy.

The rewarding of Nvidia, as you put it, is accidental , not intentional.

If someone buys a 970, then returns it for a 980 that is not accidental. that person in question made a choice to buy a 980 and in doing so rewarded nvidia for their screw up. They (nvidia)should be bending over backwards to do whats best for their customers, just like what ocuk have done. instead its stoney silence in the vain hope that the problem will go away.

Accidental yes, but they don't deserve it.

People will buy what they want. It's a simple as that. They may not be happy with the choice but ultimately the decision is still their's.

It's the perception that they are rewarding Nvidia that is accidental/unintentional and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 memory issue was, once again, reported to be going to be fixed with new driver update on the 2nd of Feb (If true?)

Its the trouble with us Brits at times, we just take it. I'd love to see loads more people telling nvidea to shove there cards and send there 970s back. I'm sure nvidea would soon break there silent treatment.

Even in the photography world with major companies like Nikon and Canon if there are problems there seems to be a more proactive approach than AMD and Nvidia to issues. Just look at the D600 and D750 issues. Nikon offered to repair D600 cameras OUT OF WARRANTY.

The camera market is not a duopoly.

All of us who buy video cards are in the same boat.

Be it green or red, they are the only choices.

Competition drives innovation. if we all decided to boycott one supplier based on a principle, then we would only be shooting ourselves in the foot.

If AMD had a similar issue to the one Nvidia is going through, would you stop buying graphics cards?

Whether we like it or not, they both have us between a rock and a hard place.

Mine just so happens to still be Green....

Its not a perception though is it, the person made a choice to buy a 980 after been screwed over with a 970. In doing so that has rewared nvidia with more money.

We as consumers have the right to vote with a wallet, thats the only way to force these big companies to clean up their act.

As for the driver update it cant fix the problem since its hardware related (designed to be that way). They later retracted their statment about driver update anyway. Since that would admit that there was a problem.

The aim is to not put nvidia out of business by boycotting them, its about making them realise through a sharp lack in sales that what they did is unacceptable. That in turn would lead to an acknowledgment of the problem and to see what they are willing to do to fix it. That would be a start, the attitude at the minute from them is basically we dont care.

Yep totally agree. Their statement last week pushed me to RMA.

However I am not in a position to wait months to see what AMD pull out of the hat with the 3 series.
This is in all probably is the last card I will buy.

So am I rewarding Nvidia by buying the 980 and not a AMD?

No

I am doing what is right for me, based on what I want in a market of two.

So what card would you recommend to a disgruntled 970 buyer , that for whatever reasons needs/wants a Nvidia card?
960 is too slow ,, they dont want a second hand card, 980 is the obvious choice.
While i think Nvidia should offer refunds to all 970 buyers there is no point to be gained be complaining about those that choose to buy another Nvidia card

Gibbo

Dear customer,

Thank you for your patience regarding the recent GTX 970 complaint, GIGABYTE is still working with NVIDIA regarding this matter. But we do understand this may be a lengthy process, GIGABTYE has decided to offer a paid upgrade program for customers who are interested in moving up to the GTX 980.

The two model we are offering for the upgrade options are GV-N980G1 GAMING-4GD and GV-N980WF3OC-4GD. For customers who are interested in the upgrades, please provide a copy of the original purchase invoice, serial number, shipping information and the model you are interested. Once we received the information we will reply back with a price difference and how to proceed with the upgrade.

Thank you for choosing GIGABYTE.

I saw this earlier so I contacted Gigabyte UK to ask about this and this is the reply I just got back from Gigabyte:

Hello,

Sorry but Gigabyte are not a retail seller of any form and do not sell or swap goods direct to the public that are not faulty or offer payable upgrades. We are not any form of shop or retail outlet and/or warehouse and do not keep stock. Please take up any upgrades or direct swaps/refunds with your seller as they sold you the item(s).

Our official statement is as follows in regards to the GTX970 Nvidia memory configuration issue:

//• GTX 970 is an excellent performing product that delivers the promised performance. It is NOT faulty.
• There is NO need for any customer to return it to us.
• Gigabyte Do Not accept returns for a product that is functioning normally.

This admin dept at the time of writing, knows of no other statement or message apart from the one given above which is what we are informing customers with. The one you have advised us off though below will be investigated officially and has been forwarded on.

Therefore unless the item is faulty (memory issue is excluded as this is not a fault), please take up all other options with your supplier only and return the goods to them. This e mail address is only for customers requesting direct assistance for faulty VGA’s or motherboards for repair only. The Nvidia memory design issue is affecting all hardware manufacturers.

Regards

Returns Admin Dept

So there you go. It would seem that Gigabytes official position is that there is no fault and there won't be any returns or refunds. The other message seems not to be accurate at all. As it is Overclockers have promised to take back any 970 cards from all manufacturers but it would seem that Gigabyte cards are going to be at Overclockers expense. Personally I was still on the fence about what to do with my 970 SLI set up but this attitude from Gigabyte has probably pushed me over the edge now. I hate to put it onto Overclockers as they have done nothing wrong but I will most likely be taking up their offer for a refund and then changing up for a pair of 980's instead. I know one thing for sure they won't be a pair of Gigabyte VGA products nor will I ever again buy any Gigabyte products of any kind in the future. Bad customer service is inexcusable in my book and I don't care how good their product is if their attitude to something as egregious as this whole memory mess is to simply put their head in the sand I have no time for them whatsoever.

As Overclockers keep reminding us Customer is king well obviously not for Gigabyte they are not.

Again that is your right, if you choose to buy a 980 its your money not mine. However you cant dispute the fact that your giving more of your hard earned money to a company that slapped you in the face.

Meh I'm just going to sell my 970 in a year's time and by a 1070 or whatever they call it.

980 is too expensive and I refuse to buy an AMD as I don't like them.

Hopefully next time there won't be any coil whine or dodgy memory shenanigans.
