A battlefield2 thread

How easy/safe is it to 'fix' this game to support widescreen resolutions? In particular I'm interested in getting the game to run at 1680*1050.

The widescreen gaming forum provides instuctions, but there is also a mention of you getting kicked from games :(

Anyone had any experience of this, or care to give me a bit more info?

First start the game, and load it via the highest res it offers you, so it creates proper textures etc, then quit out and change your loading shortcut like this:

"G:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

Its not proper widescreen, as it stretches it to fit (ie, the minimap goes Oval)
 
Run Widescreen Fixer as well. It works and makes a big difference imo.

Stick to v1.32 to be safe, I do as I setup and admin our server and really cannot be doing with being kicked or banned, and you will be ok. I think I've looked before and I don't think the versions later than 1.32 have any major fixes for BF2, so to stay safe just stick with that one.

I'm not saying that any of the later ones will get you kicked or banned but I know for def that 1.32 is safe from PB.

In fact the only thing I've ever had trouble with was getting a PB global ban with a particular version of ATi Tray Tools but a quick appeal to Even Balance got that overturned.
 
Hey guys,

Just installed BF2 again, updated to the 1.41 patch and updated PB manually but I am CTDing every 10mins or so. I have tried setting the core affinity for BF2.exe and also setting it to run in Compatibility mode but nothing will fix it. My PC specs are in my sig, does anyone have any suggestions?
 
I've installed and fully updated BF2 done the screen res fix (1920x1200), updated PB manually. Basicly done everything i used to do a year ago when i used to play without any problems.

But now.....

I get kicked off every server after 5mins and just tried to play 2mins ago and it crashed to desktop :(

I really used to love this game but for the life of me i can't get it running :(

Any ideas?
 
For the guys who can't get it to last more than 5 minutes because of PB, try manually D/L PB from there site, save it to desktop or wherever, copy all the PB files to your BF2 directory from desktop, run PB from the BF2 directory, click add game, find the bf2.exe, update and voila hopefully, worked for me anyway.

Patched to 1.41 using Punkbuster version 3.4.

Although I have a little issue myself where I can't run the microphone test, when I click it it just gives me an error report, anyone now a fix?

Tried this and it did work to a point, but every time the server changes maps i get kicked and told that to have the official update etc. to play which i have :confused:
 
That map looks Awesome :D
Bottle neck city by the looks of it & boat landings for the At rockets. :D Plenty of potential for back door action (Ooooo missus) as well so things should kick off nicely. Best of all it will bring more people back to BF2, I've lost count of the people that have come back to BF2 & once back they seem to stick around as well :cool:
