Nope, sounds like you've done similar to me (except i have the dvd version instead of steam) just get revive to update the files but you also need a new account. All old accounts (and stats) are lost

I used to have the DVD version, but when it was on sale in Steam I bought it again, even through I'd stopped playing it years before.
It's probably my most played game after Soldier Of Fortune II and iRacing.

Just played for an hour or so.
Forgot how many annoying ways there were to die in this game.
Being massively rusty joining a server full of randoms with locked squads and no team play against BF2 veterans who probably never stopped playing isn't a pleasant experience.
I think the game is best left in the past, unless you have a proper team with decent squads and a proper commander to play with.

I'm waiting for the latter to happen. However it's still very fun and doesn't change the game dynamics at all - Its still a great game but as you say annoying when you spawn die 5 times in row to artillery, grenades or a sniper
I did play Squad for many many hours not so long ago. Great game but it takes a lot more time and sometimes the quick (a lot more arcady) style of BF2 is easier.
You just need a 24 v 24 map and a few good teams and its almost perfect (just have less grenades!)

That would be me ,not stopped playing in 12 years . Like I said previously their is a lot of cheaters in the game and a lot of them are admins . With no anti cheat it's hit and miss depending on what server you happen to be on

Blinking heck 3220 hours... Wow... I should have racked up that many being childless at the time haha! Are those your current revive stats or have you had to start again?
Altho it was my first EVER game, not just PC game... First MP game ever! I spend the first 6 months of 2007 having a k/d of like 0.30 haha. Tho I learnt and eventually pulled it back to a positive!
Spent hours and hours last night mapping and sorting out the x/y alignments of my 3d pro joystick.... Time to rule the skies again!
I was the same jumping back into it, you just need to learn the hit boxes and gun mechanics again.... This game is simple and straight forward, that's why I prefer it to all other BF's.... Its an even playing field.... Excluding which faction you play on as some weapons are better for each country
Perhaps I'm being dumb.... But I couldn't disagree more with you. How can you be sure they're cheating? I've played 100+ hours and cant think of more than 3 cases I've seen of cheating, which were very quickly dealt with on various top servers.... Also if you check my stats I have a large amount of Gold/Silver/Bronze medals and am often top of the table?
If people are using cheats then they need to get a refund... Because I know this sounds big headed, but I absolute own on most games I play!

Having played over 3000 hours since 2007 on the game you get to spot cheaters a little easier and i have seen all the cheats over the years . You just have to look at some of the questionable stats of some players that have maxed rank and have stupid high K/D ratios but have obnly been playing a few months . The only way to report a cheater is to record it then let the admins view and make a descision .9 times out of ten its one of their mates and nothing is done . Since the game changed over to revive servers from Ea the cheating has increased massively

I suppose that's expected given the fact the games free.... But so far not once has a cheater spoiled my game.... and if they were then tbh I'm glad they're using it otherwise they'd rage quit haha.

Well it's always a sign of success to get accused of hacking when you weren't
I was probably a little too good with the L85A1, I really did love that gun.
Indeed... Honestly, I cant remember the last time I came across a blatant hacker... I've been accused of cheating loads. A few times while streaming so no way of getting away with it on a live stream!
Oh i have been acused myself of hacking but like i said having pumped in that many hours and still play the game its very easy to spot the cheaters from those with genuine skills . And stats dont lie ,you dont get crazy K/D ratios and near max rank after a few months.

Mostly super@ karkand.... But I keep an eye out for any Dalian plant veichle or Sharky inf.
Really hoping they look at doing a Dalian Plant 24/7 or Sharky inf only. I was tempted to rent a server, but don't know if I can remember how to config or if I'd get enough to populate !
Yeah true, they go through the leader board and ban people all the time. The ban section on the forums is one of the best reads ever!
