Abramovich & Chelsea + a bit of Everton

Chelsea have a billion players on loan. They will find a way I am sure.
They do, but they have a lot of experienced players who can play CB leaving at the end of the season. If you took Rudiger, Christensen, Dave and TS out of the equation, I'm not sure they'd have their traditional calibre/experience for the big games. Them fielding a squad is no problem at all it's more whether it would be competitive in the centre of defence.

So what has Roman done recently other than be russian to have his assests seized? Did he deploy the troops? So the next human rights atrocity in the Middle East the government will seize those clubs too?

Technically he stole from Russia in the first place so it wasn't his in the first place.

So then why not sanction him 15 years ago. It's not like he's the first billionaire to get a leg up in shady circumstances. As a country we haven't minded taking his money and employment until now. I could get it if we were about cleaning up our football owners, long overdue but we just let a lovely lot take over Newcastle.

I think it's due to having close ties to Putin. Whether that's a good enough reason or not I don't know but it lets the government give the impression they are doing something.

I've been listening to LBC for the past hour hearing Chelsea fans phoning in saying it's nothing to do with them.

Lol, Abramovich's money has basically made them the past 20 years of their clubs history - if they carry on while he owns the club that history comes into deep question. It's dirty, filthy and now blood money. The players should make a stand, seek ways to exit their contracts and seek employment elsewhere or sell the club to the fans.

How? How is this now blood money anymore than it was 15 years ago. It doesn't matter that he's close to Putin, is his funding and campaigning for the war in Ukraine. **** half this forum think Blair is a war criminal yet we don't or didn't go after all his mates.

What about all the dirty money Arsenal had, should we remove something from them too? They had big gains too.

"More specifically on Ukraine and the Russian army, the UK government claims one of Mr Abramovich's companies, Evraz Plc, may "potentially" have been involved in providing steel which "may have been used in the production of tanks".

So? How is that a crime?

That's the way sanctions work, he's classed as being in Putins inner circle and therefore may have some leverage/influence over his decision making.

If he'd come out and called Putin a ****, denounced everything Russia has been doing to Ukraine, and refused anymore dealings with the Kremlin, he probably wouldn't have even been looked at for sanctions.

I wonder if they are allowed to sell any refreshments at half time?

Interesting question. I guess if refreshments are supplied by a third-party vendor, then maybe. But if it's run by Chelsea I imagine it'll fall under the same closure as the merchandise store.

I wonder how many more sponsors are going to jump ship after 3 if they all do, they may be in a perilous position with regards to administration, could even be if an option to then carry out normal running ie sponsorships are paid to administrators

His pre-emptive moves to scurry away to try and avoid this is good enough for anyone other than hardened Chelski converts. It's tainted, not even in a distant way. It's the end of the Russian era for Chelsea, now how do we want to do it? Rip off the plaster or drag this out for ages? I don't want to see Chelsea disappear as a club, but I also don't want a club, bankrolled by a oligarch close to a state waging war in Europe, playing in the English league while hospitals are being bombed.

Their sponsors agree. I wonder if the players sponsors will also have a say?

Also, Blair doesn't bankroll a football team and I also feel none of his mates would be allowed to operate a football club in Iraq...

Chelsea will be an example of this country rejecting anything related to Russia and Putin. There's nothing stopping this sentiment. It's war talk.
