Acer XB270HU - Worlds First IPS, 1440p, 144hz, Gsync

I am seriously considering getting myself one of these.

Baddass@

I take it I should be able to calibrate the screen without issues using a XRite EyeOne Display2?

What version of the Blue Eye Pro software do you recommend using to calibrate the screen?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Thank you for the review. I sent some insignificant donation. I was wondering if this AU Optronics panel is not capable of supporting 3d vision because of specs or it is just manufacturer decision because there is no market for it:confused:

I knew something about this would be wrong. WTH is the point of advertising ULMB and Gsync and 144hz? IPS has horrible blur you only notice it once you move to something with ULMB

There's a part in the review which discusses and compares lag and blur. It's positive in favour of this panel I beleive. Also, there arn't any panels where you can use both Gsync and ULMB at present, so the advertising is because they're available options.

the X-rite i1 Display 2 isn't designed to work with W-LED backlights really so it sometimes has issues correctly measuring the white point. It's still worth trying as you can normally tell straight away if the resulting image looks ok or not. Latest ver of Blue Eye Pro is fine, although if you don't already have it, the free i1 Profiler software which comes with the i1 Display 2 is fine for calibration. it just lacks the reporting features of Blue Eye Pro

I think it's down to the screen as opposed to the panel. with the panel supporting 120Hz it could in theory work, but the screen lacks the necessary hardware/certification to support it. probably an additional cost associated which they didn't want to add (thankfully!) and down to lack of market interest in 3D nowadays

Hopefully bodes well for fast ultra wides later this year, such as the Acer Predator XR341CK. Seems they've got an AWFUL lot right with this monitor. :)

Thanks Baddass for responding back.

What calibration device would you recommend that should have no issues fully calibrating this type of screen and the price for them isn't very expensive?

I was thinking a price range of around £100-£300

The X-rite i1 Display Pro would be my recommendation, very good device and works with loads of different software packages. i'd try the i1 Display 2 first though before you fork out as you might find results satisfactory anyway :)

I've got an old Gretag at home (sure it's the i1?) but they've stopped updating the software for it. Really annoying as it cost a fortune new. Any suggestions for software that would work with it?

Thanks mate for responding again to my inquiry. I will test my i1 Display 2 first if I do go for this screen and if this calibration device doesn't
give great results with this type of screen then I will see about purchasing another calibration device like the i1 Display Pro you suggested.

I take it the i1 Display Pro dose support W-LED backlights?

doesn't the free i1 Profiler software from X-rite's website work with it? is there anything wrong with the old software as i suspect it still largely does the job. the limitations probably come with it being an old device now, so could have suffered degradation over time, and won't be properly compatible with modern backlight types (the old devices were pretty much designed to work with CRT and CCFL backlit LCD's). it will "work" still, but you'll find the white point measurement to be off, normally around 300 - 600k. thats the main issue with using devices without relevant correction matrices for modern backlights.

other good calibration software with a free 14-day trial is BasICColor Display. worth checking out

yes indeed, and wide gamut CCFL, RGB LED etc.

Asus told me Q2 as an estimate but did caveat that by saying it could slip and was not firm. Given the delays with the ROG Swift I wouldn't hold my breath. I should get one before launch though for a review :)
