Acer XB270HU - Worlds First IPS, 1440p, 144hz, Gsync

doesn't the free i1 Profiler software from X-rite's website work with it? is there anything wrong with the old software as i suspect it still largely does the job. the limitations probably come with it being an old device now, so could have suffered degradation over time, and won't be properly compatible with modern backlight types (the old devices were pretty much designed to work with CRT and CCFL backlit LCD's). it will "work" still, but you'll find the white point measurement to be off, normally around 300 - 600k. thats the main issue with using devices without relevant correction matrices for modern backlights.

other good calibration software with a free 14-day trial is BasICColor Display. worth checking out

yes indeed, and wide gamut CCFL, RGB LED etc.

Great, thanks very much. They stopped updating the Colour Match software at Windows 7 unfortunately, perhaps time to move on to a new one if it's going to mis-calibrate the white point.

Looks like its shapeing up to be a great gaming monitor. I was all ready to put the money down for this one, but there is one major thing stopping me.

Is it just me or does this thing look really cheap compared to the Asus offering? £700 for a monitor with glossy plastic bezel/stand, and a cheap looking orange ring around the base?

I wouldnt be at all supprised if Asus will refresh their pg278q with the same panel at some point... id be gutted if i missed that!

I totally agree. The physical styling of the Acer is awful, and it looks a cheap build. The swift is a very nice monitor in the flesh, design and build wise.

Im glad its not just me :)

It seems the right panel in the wrong enclosure for me personally. It still looks very much like an Acer usally does, not to say thats bad, but its not great really for the money is it

The Asus looks so premium, id be really proud to sit that on my desk. If they could find their way to ditching the TN panel currently used, id snap it up in a heartbeat!

Day 46 in the little Varkanoid house. Staring at an empty wall where a monitor should be, mouse gripped in one hand, poised hand over keyboard in the other wondering when Acer will fix my flaming monitor whilst tears of sadness roll down my face. <cut to adverts>

Great review from tftcentral and good to know that Acer appear to be offering a quality product. I can understand the concerns of some others in this thread regarding poor build quality from Acer monitors in the past, but I don't think that's reason enough to discount this monitor on the back of such a glowing review.

This is going to be great monitor IPS/Low Response = Awesome! Wish the price could be lower.

I have seen the build of these new series of monitors, they are fine. Just not as cool as the Asus Swift. Not a fan of panio black.

My monitor was manufactured Nov 2014. Thats only 3 months ago.

The point I will close on is not the build quality of the monitor but the poor warranty service you have to endure should anything go wrong.

Seems to me that buying ANY monitor at the moment is a total lottery in terms of QC, and manufacturer support after if things go wrong is equally as bad.

Are there any brands that are better for customer service and support than others. I think dell are quite well regarded, but apart from them????......
