Acer XB270HU - Worlds First IPS, 1440p, 144hz, Gsync

Yup, my lg 29um65 has developed excessive IPS glow/bleed over the last few weeks, no idea how, I haven't touched the monitor since setting it up back in July. I have also got noticeable banding as well now....

Brands and monitors that I will never touch for the foreseeable future, no matter how good they review/look on paper:

- acer
- LG

ASUS were also on the list but they seem to be getting a bit better lately and at least we have an asus rep on here now so he can look into things and speed the rma etc. process up a bit.

Got mine today. Dpd messed up and delivered it back to overclockers, then oc didn't ship it out twice so I gave up and drove to the store to collect.

No dead pixels, no backlight bleed I can see. There might be some with a black screen at night, but in the day with a black screen it's perfect. As I only game on my computer I'm not going to worry about a close nighttime examination. Very happy with my new monitor

I so want this monitor but the number of problem's you guys are reporting is putting me off. And there doesn't seem to be a similar 1440p 144hz Gsync IPS monitor coming out soon from other manufacturers right?

Yep, no other 1440p 144hz IPS gsync announced yet. Why on earth Acer are the only ones making this so far is beyond me.

It's likely that Acer has agreed to a deal with AUO (who makes the AHVA panels) and ASUS (who makes the FreeSync version of this). I don't think there will be another G-Sync 1440p monitor with the same AHVA panel... Unless LG or Samsung make IPS/PLS displays rivaling the speed of this, this monitor is the only option for the foreseeable future.

Aye, I just wish someone other than Acer would get on it, quickly.

I can't wait to see what a mess/ massive **** storm that 34 inch curved superwide ips gsync 75hz from Acer will be. I bet the backlight bleed on that will be so bad it will defy the laws of physics. They may as well make the screen white.

Playing on this monitor is amazing. I am as well not a "easily pleased" type of person. I also can not stand motion blur. I was sceptical at first about a IPS screen having the motion clarity of my 144hz TN monitors. But side by side, it seems even better, but with the added bonus of beautiful colour reproduction and G-Sync to boot!

So just thought I'd mention that their are good ones out there as well, which I know is no consolation for the failures. If I sit in the dark with a black background and take a photo with my camera it does look disproportionately bad on the picture with IPS glow ect. But in REAL use I just can't see anything bad, even when looking hard and gaming in the dark.

I have added some photo's. Sorry their small, I don't know how to make them open really big.

Which confirms the fact that the people with issues should not have to accept them.

They have all paid the same money so should expect the same quality.

Yes without a doubt. If I had one that had visible back light bleed during my normal usage then I would want a replacement/refund as well.

I just wanted to share my experience with the monitor.

Just confirms that there's some absolutely horrendous quality control with these monitors (and monitors in general these days as we're coming to realise). Just ****** £40 down the drain today sending the monitor back. Plus, now having used a 27" 1440p 144hz monitor, my old 1080p dell looks cramped, blurry and sluggish.

Well I am expecting James on the OcUK staff to contact me early next week to let me know he has put me on the list for the Acer direct swap out service.

I will be making sure I ask the Acer engineer that will supposedly call to arrange the swap out if the replacement screen will be fully tested before he swaps
out the current one I have with the replacement to make sure it also doesn't suffer from bad backlight bleed or dead or stuck pixels.

If he turns around and comments that they just get them from the manufacturer and don't test them themselves before giving them to the customer,
then I will be asking him for a contact number for the Acer direct swap out service in case the replacement is in just as bad shape with the backlight
bleed or even worse than the one I originally have.

Fingers crossed those of us that use this direct swap out service manage to get an acceptable replacement in the end that will make us happy.

I think I have captured the glow effect as the eye can see it.

The image I took below is similar to many posted online and definitely over exaggerates the effect.

The main issue is that when gaming during the day, in natural light, the corner glow is barely noticeable. That was when I first posted my positive opinion. As soon as natural light is replaced by dimmed room light or darker the yellow glow is exaggerated 10 fold.

I have thoroughly tested on GTA V, Watch Dog, Assassins Creed Black Flag, Skyrim, Sniper Elite 3 and 7 Days to Die. All look astounding and play without any of the graphical annoyances that each of the individual games have been known to throw up. However, all emit the corner glow during evening gaming in dim or darkened scenes. The sheer terror the first night in 7 Days to Die (pitch black, zombies clawing at the earth above) is totally lost when the screen is half filled with a yellow glow.

Yes, I agree you can ignore this nuisance, but I wouldn't find this acceptable on a £200 monitor, never mind one in this price bracket. I really hope Acer sort this out as they are 100% onto a winner. They must be able to, as I doubt any of the monitors sent out for review had this obvious flaw.
