Acer XB270HU - Worlds First IPS, 1440p, 144hz, Gsync

The way I see it, unless you must have a monitor TODAY, I'd hold off buying this. It was going to be my next purchase, but given the problems, and the fact I really hate the look of it with that glossy black, I am holding off. I don't NEED it now, and it will hardly be the first and only IPS G-Sync 144Hz monitor. Who knows what's around the corner? A similar model from a more reputable brand than Acer is surely on the horizon.

Hey guys, for those with the monitor I have a question, has anyone noticed games minimizing on them automatically from time to time, it's happened to me about 10 times now on various games, real odd, I have to click on the game in the taskbar and it goes back to full screen, got to wonder if this g-sync is doing it.

Yup, this has happened 2 or 3 times so far.

Not had this problem but, I do have a problem where the screen appears to randomly turn itself off/on, the screen will go off and then back on rapidly 2-3 times this lasts like 5 seconds and then will be fine fine again for a period of time before doing it again. Extremely annoying in games, caused me to die a few times in GTA.

I've also had times where the monitor does this and then just acts as if there is no input connected and flashes those random colour images until the PC is restarted, despite the PC still running and being operational (I can hear sound and use my mouse and keyboard to interact as normal, just the monitor won't output an image.

Then there is another issue I've had where the screen gets messed up, best I can describe it is, it looks "fuzzy" the whole screen image is kind of blurry not just in game but on everything, haven't bothered to capture it in a screenshot/photo as it's only happened a few times but heard some others describing this issue too.

I have two Titan X's in SLI, I have taken one out and tried single GPU, disabled G Sync and tried most every combination of disable/enable settings and it doesn't affect these issues.

Backlight Bleed and Dead Pixels are not the only things to be concerned about it would appear, even though mine is acceptable in those regards, these issues are quite frustrating to deal with when playing a movie/game totally immersion breaking.

Sooooo yea.....

I'm quite happy with my monitor, but this issue when switching it off is driving me potty.

When I power the monitor off, the resolution appears to change - windows are resized, and the task bar and desktop icons are nowhere to be seen.

How do I get some support for fixing this? I presume it is similar to the HDMI issue that used to plague Windows 7.

I'm running Windows 10 latest build.

If you have another display attached to the same GPU and you turn off a display port connected monitor Windows automatically moves your desktop to the other display, thus adjusting your layout and resolution the next time you turn the DP monitor back on again. It's a bug in all current Windows platforms. If you get a utility like Ultramon you can setup multi monitor display profiles and quickly switch between layouts with it, it even has a facility to save desktop icon layouts per multi monitor setup. If they ever get messed up you just select "restore icon layout" from a context menu and it moves them all back again for you.

Well I got my monitor today and i'm happy overall.
The box was sealed and there were no signs of it being opened so that was a relief.

The monitor build quality itself was not that impressive. Cheap plastic...My Asus seems a lot more sturdy.

I noticed a little bit of ips glow on the bottom right of the screen but nothing distracting. So far no stuck or dead pixels.

The reason I got this monitor was for the 144hz gsync and I was not dissapointed. It is amazing! So smooth but only if you stay above 30-35 fps...otherwise you get stuttering If you drop below that.

The acer menu is very sparse and not that easy to navigate in my opinion, especially compared to my Asus monitor.

Overall its a very good monitor. I will report back if I have any issues with it.

I need to calibrate it cos the standard settings are rubbish. Any advice?

i can play all day but then in the evening while playing anything, dirt, gta, killing floor 2, after a short while it starts randomly flashing grey a few times then either crashes the pc and turns off, or the image becomes weirdly pixelated like looking at a 1024 res image but each pixel is split with black lines and the game continues to play but then it crashes the pc when i exit the game. no bsod, can still hear game audio, just unresponsive. then after a few restarts and turning g-sync on and off it will work fine for the rest of the night, that has happened 2 nights in a row. its running on a titan x that was stable on the old hazro which is now second monitor running off dvi, tried swapping display ports, removing oculus drivers, different power sockets in the room and i am picking up another dp cable to try tonight and see if it happens again, is anyone else getting this or has this ever been seen on other gsync panels?

Yeah I've been getting very weird crashes to desktop, system freezes and occasionally even a lockup whereby I have to hard power down or reset my machine. This is on an X99 with 3 x GTX980 in SLI that have been very happily powering my 3840 x 1440 @ 60Hz with no problems whatsoever. Are there any known issues with the latest nVidia drivers and G-Sync?

The other problem I'm finding is that even with the desktop res set to 120Hz and the nVidia CP set to "Highest available", games seem to lock to arbitrary refresh rates - ACIV won't budge over 60fps, Shadow of Mordor won't go above 100fps and other stuff tends to settle at either 60 or 85Hz. This is with G-Sync on in the nVidia CP and V-sync off in each game's settings. Am I doing something wrong?

FWIW, the backlight bleed doesn't really become apparent unless I'm specifically looking for it on a static black background (although the bottom-right corner is clearly the worst affected area thanks to the bezel construction) and I haven't seen any pixels with issues.

However if I can't actually game at 120Hz+ this somewhat defeats the object for me. Any suggestions?

Quick question, due to my screen being white on the bottom and top like a lot of other people. Do i need to state within this post i want to return my monitor and then start the return process or contact Gibbo?

I had called ocerclockers and I was informed that it would be better to speak with Acer

If you want to use the Acer on site swap service you need to speak to James in Ocuk returns, he will then pass on your details to Acer. If you want a refund instead you need to do that through Ocuk.

Same here. I have even had 'crashes' which lead to BSODs which refer momentarily to the Nvidia driver not detecting the display. I am wondering if it is related to overclocking of the cards?

I've used mine over the weekend and I'm unsure what to do. The BLB/Glow is bothering me a bit... not sure its as bad as others who have posted but its still noticeable all the same. I previously used (and now as 2nd monitor) a Dell Ultrasharp U2711, which was/is a beast.

The difference between the 2 is clear. The Dell has a little bit of glow but nothing Id even noticed until purchasing this new XB270HU, noticing it and then comparing them.

I'm debating using this Acer swap out service but unsure of how it will actually work. The details are apparently in the CS forum... however I can't see any posts of anykind whatsover in that section of the forums. Am I missing something here ? :)

I don't want to hang about too long on it as I might just Return it under CCR because as it stands now im not sure im happy with it in all honesty considering the price.

I think the CS threads can only be seen by the person who posts them, and OCUK of course... so if you post there you will get a response. I don't know how the swap service works either, but I'd hope that if you get another duff monitor you can still return it for a refund. If not, then just return now under CCR. I would encourage anyone who's not happy to do so... for £700 there is no way we should be accepting of these problems, it's frankly ridiculous.

If you use the swap service I wouldnt think you could then return under CCR ? It's a different monitor you bought that would be returned ?

The only update we've had around the Acer swop is a few pages back with a new monitor being delivered on one day and the old monitor being picked up the day after, if this is the case and the new monitor is no better than the old then send back the new one to Acer and then CCR your old, unless Acer offer to do a thorough check of the monitor they send out it is another gamble, I'm still waiting to hear from them.
