Acer XB270HU - Worlds First IPS, 1440p, 144hz, Gsync

So I call Acer UK and surprise I get to talk to an Indian woman I have to strain to understand and have to take ten minutes trying to explain what backlight bleed is, she then says I have to send it to them and I explain there is an agreement between them and the retailer Overclockers (that have to spell for her) but she says that isn't policy, so seriously I'm well cheesed off now, guess you want to give me my money back Overclockers, cod I really would have rather you keep it and I have a good monitor, where is Gibbo or someone? Because if I can't get a replacement by the end of the week this will have to go back.

I feel for you bud. This is the stuff of my nightmares. I genuinely lose my **** when it comes to situations like this and bad customer service all round.

I know it doesn't help your specific, or others situation but Threads like this are really useful, as it guarantees I and probably many others will never, ever, ever, ever, even think about buying an Acer monitor.

Gonna decide tonight with mine. The BLB/Glow is not too bad, but its still there and shouldnt be as noticeable as it is. Its a shame because the picture and the rest of the features are brilliant.

I'm in a position that I either keep it and perhaps look at another months down the line from Asus or whoever makes the next 144hz IPS G-Sync 1440p monitor and assuming I can afford it get that one so ill have a triple set up, or just send it back this week and get the ROG Swift.

I've been using an IPS panels since my Apple cinema display almost 10 years ago. To go back to TN now would take a bit of adjusting.

I could just wait but...I love 144hz and I can't stand screen tearing! Argh! decisions!.

This was supposed to be easy :(

Good old Acer, shoddy monitor and dirty cheap indian call center lol. Nothing like quality products and customer service. I'm so glad I didnt buy this pile of crap.

Just turned mine on. No dead pixels and little bleed. Think the gaming gods favour me after all the problems with the LG 34".

Happy for once!

Ok Another update. After trying to play some The Evil Within, I noticed a lot of ips glow at the bottom right and left of the screen. It's really distracting in dark scenes eventhough my brightness is 35.

Everything else is great. Not sure if i should send it back now :(

I hope this ips glow settles down. It's only been a day. I'm not sure if that is possible?

If it persists I may have to return it and get a replacement, and if the replacement is just as bad or worse, i'm gonna get a refund.

It's such a shame cos the 144hz gsync is so amazing.

Is it IPS glow or backlight bleed? If you move to view that corner of the screen head on, does it get better?

Its probably backlight bleed, and it wont get better, unless you faff about with the casing, it can get worse overtime though.

No it doesn't get any better...It's really annoying. I think I will get a refund on this monitor and get the rog swift instead.

if it doesnt get better, then its backlight bleed, rather than ips glow.

Get a replacement from acer, or return to ocuk for a refund and get something else.

I'm keeping mine, the effect I was seeing isn't backlight bleed it's IPS glow as it disappears when moving your viewpoint. I think I just had the screen too close to me. The colours and motion clarity of this display is pretty amazing. I own a calibrated Panasonic ZT plasma TV that is pretty much the last of the greatest screens out there (till OLED matures) so I am used to quality colour and motion reproduction and this Acer screen is very very good in comparison. The blacks are quite a bit of an improvement too compared to my HP IPS LP2475w monitor.

Just had the swop out email, fingers crossed for a good replacement, the more I've been playing on more amazed I am with the ways games play and look on it, if they got the QC right on these they'd be on to an absolute winner of a panel.

I've also had the swap out email but instead of replying i called the number on there and spoke to mark to see if he could confirm what ocuk had told me.

Apparently there has been a bad batch which has effected ocuk only.Which is quite amusing as he 1st thought i had bought it from s*an. So i guess wherever you buy it from the bad batch has only affected that particular shop lol

Also the new replacement screen WILL NOT BE TESTED before being sent as poor mark has no way of testing a screen that uses D.P only

So the process means a screen is sent to him from the main depot he then forwards it to me which will be mean i will get it Monday at the earliest. Should a new problem arise with the replacement screen then he will go to head office to decide what to do next in terms of a refund that acer will provide.

This doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence, especially when i called ocuk who told be the screen would be fully tested and if there was any issue with the replacement screen ocuk would refund me not acer.

NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL OCUK

I just received the same swop out email. Hopefully we will now manage to get a decent one this time round that doesn't suffer from the aggressive backlight bleed or any other issues for that matter.

My email reply

I will order the replacement today and when it is received at my office I will arrange delivery off it to you. I will aim to have it delivered on one of the collection dates you are available and I will let you know what day it will be out for delivery.

I have been informed it was a batch issue so the replacement should be fine. However if there are any issues then Acer will deal with them.

Does the batch issue refer to dead pixels or backlight bleed or both? I have a bit of bleed on the lower right, which if I could get fixed, I would be a lot more pleased with this monitor!
