Acer XB270HU - Worlds First IPS, 1440p, 144hz, Gsync

They've put the price up?! Hahahahahahah. Just brilliant.

Unless...... it's some bizarre reverse psychology trick - it's an awful looking, cheaply built, badly constructed monitor that's plagued with faults, but it's £700 so it must be good! Yer right.

It's like Lidl and their faux artsy/ trendy/ appealing to the dull middle classes adverts that are really starting to annoy me now. It's still a ****ing Lidl, and still cack.

Is it just me, or are LG and Acer notorious for backlight bleeding. I once bought an LG IPS monitor for a family member and the backlight bleeding was atrocious. Saw the same on a friends LG monitor too. My nephew has an Acer S7 and the back light bleeding is so high, I'm suprised he hasn't sent it back yet. Now this Acer XB270HU seems to have the same ****** backlight bleed.

Think I'll avoid these two companies like the plague now, unless there is definitive proof that they are producing something of decent quality.

According to an email reply from Mark that is in charge of the Acer swap out, when I asked him what would happen if the replacement has similar issues wrong with it as well, he responded to say this.

We are not able to test them before shipping them out as we do not have anything in the office we can connect it to.

If the replacement is the same we can replace it again or refund the item.

I will e-mail when we ship the replacement so you know what day you can expect delivery.

I am assuming this means if the replacement we get also suffers from similar issues then we just need to let him know and he will deal with it himself and ether arrange another replacement or refund.

fingers crossed really good news

oc tech said the monitors missed qc, and acer will contact me,

fingers crossed!

FOLKS

im prolly not going to hear, but are their happy people out their with their acers have oc got 200units of bad predators? im confident my replacement will be good.

i'm looking forward to seeing people's exchange results, but my gut instinct tells me this whole "bad batch" excuse is rubbish, and people hoping for drastically different results from replacements will be disappointed. let's hope i'm wrong

The glow was a bit too much in the end for my liking when compared to my Dell U2711. Although the backlight bleed was not too bad at all, it seems to amplify the glow when used in low light. Also to add insult to injury I spotted a dead pixel on the screen last night.

What a shame. Ill probably go for the next IPS 144hz G-Sync panel but if its gonna cost £600/£700 It really needs to be perfect or almost. No one should accept less than that.

Hello there

Not sure as to why somebody has stated the screens have "missed QC" as this is not the case. Do you know who you spoke too?

Acer have been contacting and arranging the swap outs for the monitors and they have been taking this situation very seriously and professionally.

Any questions feel free to give me a shout.

Regards

Bailey

I got my pre-ordered XB270HU last Wednesday, but have only really had a chance to test it and play with it the last couple of days.

Yay:

  • No visible stuck or dead pixels, tested with a colour-cycling video and some gaming, etc.
  • G-Sync and 144Hz look lovely if and when the game supports it.
  • Colour reproduction is solid, but needs calibrating as overcooked at default settings.

Boo:

  • Backlight bleed is pretty severe, especially in the bottom corners
  • IPS glow means you have a much tighter field of vision on dark scenes than either my LG or Hazro panels
  • Build quality is pretty shoddy, very cheap-feeling plastic casing, buttons etc.
  • Basic stand, you'll want your own bracket.

I'm still undecided. Theirs an appealing combination of tech involved, but it's wrapped up in a bit of a bargain-bin package.

Verdict:

If you can wait, do so. I'm sure a better panel will surface that offers what this does.

If you can't wait, you will (panel lottery results notwithstanding) have a good time gaming on this.

How many people here are still using the stock brightness on the monitor?

I thought I had bad backlight bleeding, but it was more just IPS glow, once I put the settings according to TFTCentral
which are :

Gamma 2.2
Brightness: 24
Contrast: 50
R:50
G:45
B:46

Not only does everything look much better, but I didn't realise just how bright the monitor was  I think it may have been giving me a tan!

I've watched several movies on it now, and the only thing in the corner my eyes get drawn to now is that bloody blue LED!

Maybe I have a better monitor than others? Or maybe they haven't tried these settings yet.

Would be cool is some people out there who haven't tried it could as it has restored my love for this monitor

Where do you get access to the RGB values? Even with User mode selected I can only find brightness and contrast modifiers.

Hi have been using tft central settings since I've had the monitor and iam really happy with how it looks and performs.

I thought I had a small amount of backlight bleed but its more ips glow by what ive been reading , when I move in line with the glow it disappears (correct me if iam wrong) .

I posted the day I received the monitor and I didn't and still have not got any dead or stuck pixels overall iam really happy with the monitor maybe ive been lucky (which iam usually not )

I have been keeping up with all the comments on this thread and I really feel for you guys with defective monitors but if you do get a good one it is really good.

fingers crossed iam not tempting fate posting this :(

taken from the TFTCentral review:

''Pressing any of the buttons brings up the above quick access menu. You have 4 quick access options available which we will show you next. The far right option brings up the main OSD menu''

that far right OSD menu is the one u need

Just like to say, although the monitor was terrible build quality for the price, Overclockers pulled through. spoke to a lovely guy on the phone and arranged pick up and RMA with refund.

So thanks to overclockers for sorting that out, and im sorry that Acer sent you poor stock.

Hopefully Acer will sort this out.

Bad news guys. I just got this email from Mark.

I'm really sorry but I'm afraid our distributor who we have ordered the replacement through have advised me they do not have any more stock and there is no ETA for when they will get more in.

So if you are still within your RMA period with overclockers they can replace it for you or if you would prefer a refund they can do this.

If Overclockers will not do either then Acer can process the refund for you. To do this we would require to first pick up the monitor and we would need a copy of your receipt and your BACS details so we can process your refund (sort code, account number, account name and bank name)

It looks like most of us will have to get a refund instead.:(

I was first contacted by Mark around the 6th May just like most members here so it looks like most of us won`t get replacement after all unless we wait until the distributor Mark uses gets more of them in which could take months.
