Acer XB270HU - Worlds First IPS, 1440p, 144hz, Gsync

So your saying your ignoring our consumer rights that says we can return for any reason within 14 days?

You can still return it to OcUK for a refund. However they also have a right to charge you a 25% restocking fee (which OcUK won't if you only return one). If you keep buying and returning, they may.

hahahha I've found out what is causing this issue to happen, it's me apparently, my very existence... if I lean 2 inches forward in my chair or get up out of my chair, the screen will flicker and if I do it multiple times the monitor will eventually lose signal.

Video proof http://youtu.be/7wyAcPyAjYc of this stupid issue.

My back light bleed and IPS glow are tolerable, no dead pixels either but, the fact that I'd have to be strapped down in to my chair and unable to move to sustain an image on the screen is utterly insane.

I've hooked up my previous monitor using the same power cable and display port cable, I'm leaning back and forward to the screen as I type this... I'm hitting the screen... I'm hitting the screen, yep nothing happened.

Who was it that we were to talk to about a refund on this piece of junk ?

Check your power cable is fully in and also check if the desk as you move forward is not pulling on it at the back. Also in the video you have no light coming from the power button, blue when on, yellow when standby.

Power cable is fully in, I have tried two separate power cables and display port cables, still happens, the reason you can't see the power LED's is because I covered them up, I absolutely hate LED's they are completely and utterly useless, none more so than on a monitor, don't need a bright light to tell me if it's on or not :D

I need to use a longer Displayport cable than the one supplied with the Acer in order to get from my rig to the panel on a wall-mounting bracket.

I tried my existing 3m one, which works fine on my other screen handling 3840 x 1440 @ 60Hz, but it will only display up to 85Hz on the Acer. Anything 100Hz or above and the screen remains blank.

I'm guessing it's a question of bandwidth - can anyone let me know what class of Displayport cable I'd need to do this? Would anything classed as DP 1.2 work or do I need to start looking at AWG grades etc?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Guys

This morning I have just received another official word from Acer on these monitors. I have put it all for your reference below:

Acer is receiving fantastic reviews on the XB270HU monitor, but also seeing that some customers have experienced an excessive bleed issue.

Unfortunately, the physics behind IPS technology means that a glow sometimes does appear.

If you feel that this applies to your model then we first suggest the below actions;

1) Adjust settings as per below;

Gamma 2.2
Brightness: 24
Contrast: 50
R: 50
G: 45
B: 46

You can find further detail in the TFT Central review.
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/content/acer_xb270hu.htm#gaming_summary

2) Enable the unit to establish itself in the new conditions / environment. During the logistics process and storage element the products can be exposed to lower than normal temperatures or maybe moved around excessively during transit. As such, we recommend customers operate fully the unit asper normal for at least 72hrs so the panel stabilizes. Customers could also use a micro-fibre cloth to touch / softly rub the panel where the glow is present and almost ‘warm-up’ the backlight.

The two options are for customers to trial and are not guarantees of a successful solution. As such, If customers feel that the model still requires attention then we advise them to contact directly their retailer / reseller customer service, whereby your details will be passed onto the Acer Escalation service team. An Acer representative will then make contact to support you.

Acer would like to ensure all customers that we have the highest degree of quality control and after service in place currently. To lastly comment, we take all customer issues extremely seriously and are working hard to ensure that every customer has a satisfactory product as the end result.

Just another update for you, here is one of the monitors which came back with the BLB issue. And in this picture its like playing spot the monitor, I personally tested it and there is no issue with the screen at all. In my own opinion this is pretty much on point with no fault, it looks and feels like the premium monitor which it is.

It is a fantastic product.

Hey folks, saw the thread - just picked up one of these monitors while I wait on stock for my replacement gpu (290x -> titan x, after that card i need time away from amd heh).

Now, all seemed well and good until I turned the monitor on - @ 1440p if I try to go over 60hz, the monitor intermittently drops to the "signal loss" screen every few seconds.

Double checked connections and all that. Can shake the desk to my hearts content @ 60hz and it's fine. But step above it and even standing at the other side of the room it's flickering on and off.

Acer support tried to claim the monitor is limited to 60hz, no amount of convincing would persuade them otherwise. A lot of hassle there.

Any thoughts?

Are you using the supplied DP cable or your own? See my post a few back if the latter.

That looks amazing. Really want to get a good quality one if I jump

That is a great looking screen, any chance i can swop mine for that one, lol.

I have managed over the weekend to somehow drop my dead pixels down to just one now, the missus thought i looked a bit weird massaging the monitor, especially with the Tricia Helfer desktop... but it did work in the end.

Hello guys.

I just got a response from Mark who is arranging the Acer swap out.

I'm really sorry but I'm afraid not as at the moment we do not have any ETA on when any more will be available.

I don't want to say yeah wait for a few weeks and then it turns out there are more problems and the monitor might not be available as then Overclockers would not take it back.

Acer at present are working on a fix for this issue but there is no ETA on how long that will take and how it would be implemented onto the current models in circulation as well as the new models manufactured.

I would have no way of testing the new models manufactured as they only connect via display port so there is nothing in my office it could connect to.

So Acer are advising at the moment it is best to deal with Overclockers as there is nothing we can guarantee.

Regards
Mark
Acer Escalation Team

He has basically said to me that since his distributor have no more stock and there is no ETA when they will get more, he can't help any of us anymore and advise us to contact OcUK for RMA.

I guess this means the Acer swap out for us OcUK customers is no more.

I wonder how many of us actually got a replacement screen from him before the stock ran out?

Bailey have you got an answer to this?, I am still awaiting a reply from Mark regarding a swop out, last I heard from him was the 6th, I have sent an email this morning asking if he had stock for my swop out but am yet to hear back!!, do I go ahead and RMA through OCUK now?, this is frustrating as I could have done that last week….................

I take it even thought I have had the screen now around the 14 days thought I was issued out a RMA number just before
the 14 days, I should still be ok for sending it back as long as I send it back within the 28 days of the RMA?

+1 A Response would be nice...

I'm still waiting for Acer to contact me regarding the swap-out after OCUK said they would forward my details to them.

I've already sent one monitor back due to dead/stuck pixels in the centre of the screen. The monitor I still have not only has a stuck pixel in the centre of the screen, it has dust trapped partially obscuring another 6-8 pixels.

I've already paid out £42 sending back the first monitor under CCR because OCUK didn't consider it faulty. I don't want to pay out any more!

Anyone else wishing they hadn't bothered with it all now?

I have a choice. The Acer with more IPS glow than it should and I believe 2 dead pixels , one of which might be and I'm not concerned about the other is about 3 inches from the center of the screen heading towards the top right corner. I am trying methods to fix it but so far no luck.

Or... the ROG Swift with it being TN and myself using IPS panels for the best part of decade so I'm noticing the color shift more than most. Ill add that its build quality puts the Acer to shame.

Either way one of these has to go back.

Myself and Id hope others would agree that this ISO standard thing is very unfair. Its like a scratch on a new car, If you saw it you would at least be able to negotiate a discount. With monitors of this class its more like.... "tough... you need at least 3 before we care".

I just don't know what to do really.

My PC is important to me. To have to go with something I'm not keen on or a defective version of something I like is quite frankly doing my head in. Sending both back and carrying on with my other monitor would be a waste of my time and of course the £60+ shipping required to do so.

I obviously don't have the option for an exchange so I need to make my mind up somehow and of course very soon.

In 2 words ...this Sucks. :(
