ADSL Max Question?

Well I'm with plusnet - have been for 2.5 years. Just ordered the Max today (silly me, I was really late). It's getting done next week from the email :D.

1024kbp/s currently. I'm hoping for about 3mbp/s at least which I should get - I mean I've been capped at 1MB for such a long time now, I'm very happy for any increase. My router is a NetGear DG834G v1 which I've had for also 2.5 years. Runs fine for me but I've heard that they don't like ADSL2 much? So basically I'm gonna be screwed when the Max kicks in?

Based on the values you entered, we estimate that your line can support around 4.1 - 4.9 Mbps.

Also note MaxDSL is not ADSL2, it's just plain ol' ADSL with less BT imposed limits than before :)

Aah, havent paid much attention to ADSL really this year - cool thanks for clearing that up ;).

Which option did you go for?

I went for Evolution Option 3 purely for the higher priority, might downgrade if there isn't a lot of difference between peak speeds as I doubt I could get close to any of the limits if I tried!
I went with same as you, it was recommended option, seems it means your limited to 40gig a month between 6pm and 12, then unlimited rest of time, though not sure of weekends???
Option 4 meant 50gig

well my regrade to maxdsl happened last night i left my router off and synced at 8128 and 800 my download speeds having been increasing all day and im now upto about 5meg

as long as it keeps going and settles at 8 i will be chuffed :D

well my migration from pipex 2mb to bt 8mb is sort of going through right now......

my modem lost sync a few minutes ago and i thought that was it. downtime for an hour or 2 then i can login with bt credentials. but then my modem came back on sync within 2 minutes but the bt login did not work. so i logged on with my old pipex details and i'm synched at 8mb.... just a quirk in the system i guess. should be sorted soon hopefully. speeds are still capped at 2mb though..... :p

This is REALLY annoying me...

What is the default password for my BT Voyager 220v Router?

Yes I have rtfm...

Well that was difficult but i've found it...

I've been upgraded now - turned off my router overnight as the upgrade came in, so there *should* only be the 75min limit (I came from 1Mbit so my profile should get updated). Checked this morning after booting the router up:

However, limited to 2Mbits - although I think this is level 1 network management imposed on my account for going over 10GB peak usage (15GB limit 4pm-midnight - yes, that's right, PlusNet throttles you even before you hit the limit you pay for  ). So I'm throttled to 2MBits anyway now! What's worse is that my billing period is in 3 days time - notice a coincidence? So I have managed to avoid the 3 day cap only to be throttled for being a bad boy last night and downloading about 1GB worth of benching progs and straying over 10GB. My usage is reset on the billing date

Anyway, the connection is rock solid - I've been doing some download testing to max out the line u to 2mbits and it hasn't missed a beat, dropped or reset.

Don't you just love it?!

if you have just been upgraded like i have you could be capped at 2mbit for upto 10 days during the training period this is not a capp on your account it is part of the MaxDSL training

No I know that, but there is a reported way around it if you have the router off at the time of upgrade like I did (whereby the profile updates in 75 minutes). Otherwise the cap lasts for 3 days - although there are reports of longer caps up to and beyond the 10 days. Either way, I've been capped by my damned ISP. :( - Oh well, looks like I'll have to wait until Friday!

Well im six days in and my speeds dropped substantially, got upto 3mb first couple of days and ever since then its not gone any higher than 0.4mb.

+44

well i dont wanna scream joy, but i've been sync'n at ~7Mbp+ since i got regraded when the bulk upgrade tool was out, and i've had speeds around 550-600KB/sec.
mind you i am seeing a few errors croppin up more than usual so even if it drops 100KB/sec speed then i'm still chuffed :D

I got upgraded 8128/448 Kbps 12 days ago my speeds vary throughout the day from speeds of 2mb and above. I reached 900KB+ one time not sure what that is in mb. Anyway im still at 8128/448 Kbps and thought after ten days that would change?

How do you know when your line is sync'd. I Have a voyager 220v and its still saying 8128/448 Kbps 2 weeks after my line got upgraded

me was upgraded on monday morn started at about 2680 then went to 3580 when i went to work at 10 am mon.
got home mon eve and was at 2.6 still is now with 53 and 6 readings downstream.
found out that the power was cut off a few times on monday, would this have fooled the bt computer thingy into thinking the line was below par and dropped the speed?
if so would disconecting the router for the night make it start over at a higer speed?

and last question if the quality of the line improves does the speed go up....even in the future, like 6 months down the road?

thanx for looking :)

Doubt it.

No.

Yup.

Erm, this doesn't look good does it?

I've been downloading at 600KB/s recently though, why is my max stable speed only 2Mbps? I sync at 8Mbps!
