Adult content - Age Verification system - April 2018

Most ISPs do now but they appear to be useless. I think they only put them there to shut the "won't someone think of the children!" crowd up.

They probably work on http sites, but no one runs an unencrypted site anymore unless they're stupid.

The company carrying out the AgeID system said they don't store information. So are they saying that once you have been granted a code/access, they delete your information?

This as got disaster written all over it.

I've noticed none of these journalists are writing that this isn't the first time age verification system as been used. Maybe they aren't old enough. But in the early days of the Internet there used to be multiple versions of age verification. The problem was the system signed up lots of sites, and some of them were illegal. Then peoples age verification accounts got compromised and other people were visiting the illegal sites. This all came to a head in one of those big internet raids, and though it did capture a significant amount of people, it also caught a lot of innocent people due to identity theft. Since then AVS talk went quiet, until now.

Reading that document it seems to have the same potential of the same outcome happening.

I think getting a VPN is the way forward. I suspect this is the first step to control the Internet.

This is going to be a hilarious disaster culminating in a massive leaked list of porn watchers and their details.

I can only hope some of the MPs that voted this forward are on there :p

This will put everyones mind at ease... NOT!

https://wiki.openrightsgroup.org/wiki/MindGeek/List_of_MindGeek_data_breaches

2012 - 1 million YouPorn users exposed.
2015 - RedTube hit with mass malware-serving campaign.
2015 - Series of malware advertising attacks hit Pornhub and YouPorn.
2016 - Brazzers leaks account details for 800,000 (paid!) users.
2017 - Your-long malvertising campaign against Pornhub.

This MindGeek company stinks of business people acting like they know about computer/software security.

I'm actually a lot less worried about this aspect and more than it will tend towards prohibition towards porn as people are too embarrassed or not in a position to meet the id requirements resulting in an increase in criminal behaviours.

opera has a free vpn i just tested it with the pirate bay blocked by the uk government no proxy loaded straight away , this is going to be a farce of the highest order the block easily defeated using a free service who come up with this gem Cameron ?

Thought they had a court order dating back to 2012 too block it ? i definitely remember seeing a message it was blocked by virgin media in the past, strange though i can access it too dunno then some hidden proxy shenanigans going on ?

The Pirate Bay has like a billion alt-sites that spring up when others are taken down.

Which Pirate Bay are you accessing today? :p

yeah .org here too was definitely blocked in the past, not that it was effective due too all the proxys.

What date is this going live?

I just read that there are a lot of the General Public that have no idea that it's happening:

Will be funny the day that it does become live :p

Ha ha ha! You read all of that article? So they putting passes in shops that people can buy? Buying something like that in a shop is so wrong! I suppose you could say it's like buying a top shelf mag back in 1980s/1990s. There is something seriously wrong if they think they can stop this though for underage people.

There's too many sites. Until the first few sites start to get shutdown and fined that is! Then wait till individuals are getting jailed for posting it on other sites. 18+ sites like this should be on a top level domain .xxx then they would be easy to block. Take down notices could be supplied to any site that's not.

Only takes a matter of time but the problem could arrise just like pirate bay. This thing is practically impossible to get rid of now it's everywhere and shadow copies are not stoppable.

sites that don’t introduce age checks will be blocked by ISPs, but the legislation doesn’t cover social media sites like Reddit and Twitter, which host adult content. Internet users in the UK will also be able to navigate the block using virtual private networks or VPNs — services that redirect internet traffic through different parts of the world.

Financial Penalties The age-verification regulator may impose a financial penalty on a non-compliant site of up to £250,000 or 5% of their qualifying revenue.

Starting in April 2018 you will be required to verify your age in order to access adult content in the UK according to the new Digital Economy Act 2017. Unlike existing “Over 18?” age gates, a proof of age will be mandatory.

Wait till the first batch of passes are purchasable online without authentication OR a code generator is made by someone!

I've heard this is being pushed back until the end of the year.

I remember when age verification systems were active 20+ years ago. There used to be websites that published leaked usernames and passwords.
