They've been trying to get rid of the Pirate Bay for years now but there are loads of proxy links people use to access it. I imagine the same thing will happen to banned access to certain porn sites, people will just proxy their around to them.

Agree. I find the very notion of this laughable if they can't even shut down one website in however many years its been now. Just shut up and go home.

Sure, it won’t be hard to bypass this with VPN.
(Tor is too slow, the experience would be painfull)

The problematic thing is that all the connections will be going through some kind of filters/firewall system that will add to the connection latency. If you are a gamer (Quake, Counter Strike, PUBG etc. etc.) and your ping matters... then... there you go, you are punished with higher ping cause your legislators decided for you.

Also some less tech aware people, like your old man might actually follow the steps they force on us and give away their credit card details in order to prove they are an adult.. Which is perfect opportunity for cyber criminals...

My big worry about this is that not only will it create a hackable record of what sites you visit, but what type of content you 'consume' from those sites.

It's bad enough that a leak could show John Smith visited p-hub on a daily basis, but to then reveal that he tended to search for 'Thai ladyboy granny' or whatever...

TBH, would be nice if they banned the nasty face-shot stuff, nobody wants to see that filth and its entire purpsoe is to degrade woemn.

Nobody except for the millions of people that watch it...

So as a gay man am I degrading women if I give someone a facial?

Can't believe people have these absurd beliefs in 2018.

If this retarded thing ever goes live, the whole database will be hacked within the first year, if not within the first few months and the entire list of names will be released.

There be blackmail attempts all over as well. The politicians who made a rule to allow themselves to not be included in this system, still need a way to bypass the system, so whatever database or system they gonna use, that be hacked too so their names will be listed on what sites they visit.

Oh and Russia will get the blame for it too, because Russia right?

Sweet sweet necro. :D

Could you not have replied to this thread 3 days earlier? You were so close to deathday anniversary resurrection.

Hey, I asked. And since you didn't answer, it's safe to assume there's no other thread about it. No clue what "deathday anniversay resurrection" is.

Edit: Also, I'm not living in the UK currently - I'm just casually curious about this.

The deathday of this thread was march 15th 2018. You resurrected it on March 18th 2019. If you had been 3 days earlier you would have brought the thread back to life on its deathday anniversary.

I have no idea what the thread is about, but seeing it revived almost exactly one year to the day of the last post tickled me.

First, a user can register an AgeID account using an email address and password. The user verifies their email address and then chooses an age verification option from our list of 3rd party providers, using options such as Mobile SMS, Credit Card, Passport, or Driving Licence

Was this scrapped? Or did I miss a newer thread on it? Or am I becoming senile?

Last I heard they were still trying to quietly push it through this April while everyone is distracted by Brexit.

Latest form of it I heard about was a pretty bad idea.

Theyre still trying and it was passed through the house of commons in December. Search engines like Bing have already removed the ability to uncensor results.

They've come up with a number of ways to implement, failing to recognise there are several ways to bypass. It reminds me of a meeting I attended with a very prominent Labour politician who wanted a new law that forced all social media platforms to automatically provide user details of anyone who posted Anti-Semitic material. When it was explained this was not feasible he looked very angry and blustered about saying "anythings possible"
