I currently have a large tower which is getting on a bit and am looking at getting something more wife friendly.

My pc sits in my living room so it would be nice to get something a bit more modern that does not stick out as much as my current case

is there anything i need to look out for.

i am looking at a ryzen 2700 build. I have a G1 1080 GTX GPU.

does the choice of size of case effect only the MB form factor or does it effect everything else as well.

i just want a medium size case that will take a single GPU etc

this looks nice

and thinking of pairing it with this

Do you need the system right now or can you wait?

A below is re-post (with edit) of what i've mentioned before to a similar request:

If possible consider waiting until the release of zen 2 - as if it lives up to the hype this should have an impact on INTEL's ridiculous pricing structure or you may dip your toe in to Ryzen territory.

Read last few pages of this thread- Clicky - to get an idea (ignore the bitchy handbags at dawn crap).

In the mean time if you need a PSU for the upcoming build i would buy one of these PSUs preparation as they're an amazing bargain (Basically a Seasonic Focus in slightly different housing):

stunning board

itx cases are normally 2 slot GPUs, your is a 2 slot i believe but if you upgrade in future. more then likely your card will be 2.5/3 slots ....

though stock cooler can't be used , would need 240 or 120mm AIO

cheers yes i have read the zen 2 thread. I picked up a 2700 for £155 on Saturday so assume that zen 2 will be more than that. I actually am not in a rush

So, you've got the CPU already? (And at a great price!)

Budget for rest of build?

*Over to you @orbitalwalsh @Danny75 @tamzzy, if you're about, i'm tied up for next couple of hours (not in a good way either)...

If by some miracle no one has posted a build by the time i'm back - i'll happily throw one together.

cheers - to be honest i dont have a cap for a build. I dont need a new GPU at the moment. Looking at a decent MB (B450 probably) - 16GB ram and a case
and am looking at getting something more wife friendly.l
Would you like a Mini ITX format?

Did you look at @orbitalwalsh case link - is that the style of case you're after (very well thought out case design)?

You can get other ITX cases which don't have windows which may be more wife/living room friendly - and look more like entertainment system (although, you may have to swap to a mini 1080 as card length right on the limit with some cases). There's also Micro ATX which is slightly bigger - and could potentially run cooler/quieter and more room for expansion if required in the future - but both will be noisy when under load.

Some plain/windowless case examples of of Macro ATX and MINI ITX so you can decide size/form factor - and if you want a plain box look. Suggest browsing micro/itx cases for more examples :

cheers for the brilliant input - i now more or less decided to go standard atx and get a hd500 case as i like the look of that type case

definitely going with the NZXT H500 case or similar
will use the ryzen 2700 i picked up.

i currently have an anteck 650 psu (but its a bronze version) - its around 6 years old. Not sure whether to reuse that or buy a new one

the system will be used mainly for gaming and movie watching on my TV in livingroom

i hopefully can resuse my windows license

So this case?

My basket at Overclockers UK:

I would upgrade your PSU (as this is an absolute bargain; fire sale) - GOLD standard, 10 year guarantee, fully modular and you can then forget about it:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Do you need WiFi?

You should be able to reuse your windows licence - presuming it's Windows 10 as it will be needed for full Ryzen support/compatibility.

See above edits - and stick to this thread as it's hard keeping track track between two threads which are essentially the same topic.

WiFi - needs answering before board spec.

Off to bed - but as a guide.

Added the case you want, a WiFi motherboard with quality VRMs (this can be swapped out for the none WiFi version), memory is on sale (and offsets PSU slightly), quality PSU, and also added a premium cooler as it's going in your lounge (this can be down graded if required):

This is a case designed around silence - it's at a similar price to the NZXT H500 - it has sound dampening panels, unobtrusive design and may suit your lounge environment more and is full ATX compatible per your preference:

wii fii would be useful but not mandatory as my pc is by my router anyway. Cheers @Plec for all your help as well.

a quiet pc would also be very useful as well as my current one sounds like a hair dryer

everyone is saying to wait to Ryzen 3. However i have picked up a 2700 for £155 and assume that ryzen 3 will be more expensive for similar performance. My understanding is that if i get a AMD4 board now i can still upgrade the CPU in time anyway

^^corsair is less restrictive surprisingly then H500 case

itx form, small, stunning - board is better designed

As you don't need Wifi swap to the Tomahawk - also added a cheaper cooler alternative for comparison and kept silent case:

is the msi carbon better than the tomahawk version as the msi carbon is discounted to a similar price on the rain forest

anyone have any experience of the

Phanteks Eclipse P400S

I want to go with a white case as it would suit my living room a bit better than a black PC as i have a white speaker/sub system.

my wife will tolerate anything which is white hence the requirement for my pc case to be white

If it's the same price then the carbon is a no brainier - better VRMs than the Tomahawk and you have the option of WiFi if needed.

I like the Phanteks - easy to work on and still look classy - even in white (You will only get the full benefit of soundproofing if both panels are solid):
