Aero/Gains Thread

I think it's safe to say when it comes to saddle choice it's very individual. The more flexible you are through your hips the more comfortable a "traditional" shaped saddle will be I reckon. I know when I ride I tend to rotate my whole pelvis forward when I'm in an aero position so I need a noseless saddle otherwise... you get the picture. Others are better at anchoring their sit bones while rotating forward, and some just prefer sitting on the nose of the saddle.

Erm, I had no idea there were so many flavours. I think it's the Arione "Classic".

I also have the Fizik Ardea Tri which came with the bike. There isn't actually anything wrong with it comfort wise but I think I prefer the Arione as it isn't as deep.

The ISM Adamo just made me sore down there.:o

Same here, I got mine with my first TT bike, tried to swap it then gave up thinking I could be spending a lot of money here for very minimal change, it's not that it's especially uncomfortable, just not quite perfect.

Finally got to round to ordering a new Disc for the TT bike. Just need a decent Tri-spoke or deep front now. Might change from S bends to J bends soon too. Looking forward to my first TT of the year on 12th Feb now. It's a SPOCO but not too severe of one with some good downhill sections.

Cool, as above, which disc?

I swapped to J's and so glad I did. I know it is really personal preference but the J's are so much more comfortable and they are more aero for me. Win/Win.

I just won a brand new Arione K5 saddle for £34 on eBay. Nice little saving of £60 made

Went for a Hed Jet Plus in the end that I managed to get for a good price. Yeah fairly sure J's will be more aero. I'm straining slightly on my wrists with S bends at the moment which is bringing my shoulder blades up too. Should be able to relax them down a bit further changing them. That's the hope anyway!

I've not really found any evidence to suggest there's a huge amount of variation between discs whereas front wheels seem really sensitive to frame, fork and tyre choice. The trick is to find someone fast with your frame and copy them. :D

Which TT are you doing on 12th? My planned first is the hardriders course on 19th which is just down the road, going to be chilly!

Just keep an eye out for wheels Thomas. Always loads going on TT forums but got to be quick for the best ones. TT forums are great for finding the combos, although may be worth aero testing and comparing a couple if you can, but if you're buying top quality wheels they're usually easy enough to move on.

Moved to J/Ski bends this year, definitely much easier on the wrists. Still waiting for the new dura ace shifters to be released, got some brakes, but no way to change on the extensions currently. Season is coming around quickly :S May have to improvise in the short term.

SoliD - road.cc been reviewing new DA on a roadbike but do detail the new shifter buttons and how it will be very useful on TT bikes. Sounds perfect but will be way out of range of my pockets.

Thomas - Who is coaching you?

OMS - I might recruit your help via email or WhatsApp or something like that. My girl is from Lancashire and I spent an hour on CTT yesterday looking at races/courses around Manchester and Lancaster etc. My coach is based in Bury so would be cool for me to do some races down there during this year. Hoping you would be OK to help me identify where the races worth going to are and if there is 2 fast races in a week in June/July or the like I could tag in together it would be perfect. I can sorta/kinda figure this out via CTT site but having some actual real world knowledge of courses and the races would be a blessing.

Yeah, I'm just waiting for them to be released, due early next month, along with new inline DFly. Got the old Dura-Ace brake/shifters so can change gear at least which is fine for Turbo.

I think I'm going to go alone again this year, but after my improvement/enjoyment in CX I'm unsure as to which area to focus on, but will decide towards end of year and then may look at coach from there.

@xdcdxc Alex Simmons at RST Sport, a team mate is coached by Xav at RST (aerocoach) to great effect, so hoping I'll see a fair improvement. Already feels a lot nicer to have targeted sessions to be doing!

Nice. Funny I was reading a post about coaching this morning and he weighed in on the discussion with some positive writing. RST is pricey though, I am guessing you are on Gold plan, it sounds superb but it's more than I could afford. I hope it works out well for you mate  Xav is a bit of a legend and to say he knows his stuff is bit of an understatement!

You don't need sacrifice CX or TT if you want to target both. A coach might be a good way of you seeing and adapting to that so you can approach each season a bit more effectively. I have no doubt you can get the training done yourself but the power having someone to speak to things about and structuring things for you has is very worthwhile and usual a bit of an eye opener.

This is my first coach so just decided to start on the Bronze plan at the moment and see how it goes. Can always upgrade down the line later if I feel like I need it.

Yeah, pretty much the main reason I chose them. Very knowledgable outfit, so hopefully will be getting my money's worth!

Absolutely, just want to see how I perform this year after learning a fair bit last year, as it is an expense on top of my humongous spend this past year :P, and want to make sure in my mind if I do go down that route because I can't bring improvements through my own research and methods.
