Afghanistan - 20 years on

Given the couple of videos I've seen where the Taliban were escorting foreigners out, but full on verbally abusing them and only 1-2 commander types holding them back I can't imagine things have changed much - there seems to be a thin line holding the worst back.

Any links?

Amazing how these videos seem to be freely available, especially when the Taliban forbid filming and the internet. Surely these hypocrites aren't breaking their own edicts, are they?

In Kabul, and other major cities, they'll probably try and make it look like they've changed, but scratch away at the surface and it'll be the same as it is in the dusty regions of the country, i.e. something akin to living in medieval times.
Yep them press conferences are a joke they are just telling us what they think we want to hear its the same old Barbaric Taliban in charge.

I watched that Sky interview. The guy talks the talk, but they are going to force the women to cover up.

I really hope they aren't lying about having changed in the last 20 years. Afghanistan doing well would be great and they would get a ton of tourism.

I think that's really unlikely. The Taliban have a few people putting a thin veneer of change out to the media for the time being. Maybe those few mean it, maybe not. I doubt if it will make any difference either way. The Taliban is not cut out for change of any kind. A core part of their ideology is the belief that it's already as intended by the one true supreme god of everything. No scope for change there.

Yeah it is so odd - so many of them are toting mobile phones, the internet still seems up in many places. I think there is going to be significant differences between the new guard and old guard who are far more hardline. A lot are being quite cagey as well and/or taking a hands off approach at the moment like they don't have any idea what is and isn't accepted by their own commanders - it is quite weird.

Which makes him more deserving of a ban than the Taliban, who actually kill people then????

I mean I know you don't like the guy but "mean tweets vs actual death" and, to you, a ban for saying mean tweets is justified but you didn't mention anything about banning the Taliban as well in your reply to the comment about why they aren't banned, just Trump, and that confuses me.

Do you think the Taliban should be banned or just Trump?

I made no comment on the Taliban did I. I said Trump deserved his ban. If the Taliban were banned you'd get zero argument from me.

Just stop please it's embarrassing, you're defending the Taliban being on Twitter

You're the one embarrassing yourself here. At no point have I defended the Taliban so your reading/comprehension skills are embarrassing you along with your constant defence of Trump. You really are a sucker for him aren't you.
