Age of Conan

Cheers :D

Any help on the day night thing? Pretty confused about that, I just want to run about with my mate and quest/chat/sell stuff/run about. Is that not possible at night?

Night is like a solo quest chain for your character to follow the story. Im not sure how far it goes on past level 13, as i never finished it it the open beta.

1-5 (or 6 if you kill everything :D) is solo only

5-20 can either be done totally own your own (by going to an Inn and using the NPC or bed) this turns it to night time or publicly during the day.

Still having problems choosing what class to be!

I didn't manage to get in the beta but i my fav classes in WoW were the rogue and lock so i was thinking either Necro or Assassin.

However these were more geared towards PVP in WoW and i am now possibly thinking of gearing towards PVE more with possibly a guardian or similar. I’m not sure.

Anyone know how the necro and assassin fair in PVE?

Well assassins are definitely a more pvp based class with high single target dps, however due to the distinct lack of armour and lower hp I'm not quite sure if they are a great PvE class.

I played a lock to level 70 and it's the best PvE class in the game. Nothing beat's soloing when you have a demon out to take the hits, and I always topped the dps in instances too. If this translated to AoC then I'd definately roll one. Have you looked at the demonologist too?

i really dont know about this, some things look amazing, but people dont seem to like it?

You know that there are a lot of people who don't like WoW, yet look how popular and for some, how good that game is. Since it has been out for so long we don't get I hate WoW threads popping up all the time.

Same with AOC, from what I can see the game will be great but not everyone’s cup of tea, especially those who are institutionalised in WoW. However since it is a new launch there are loads of posts about people who don't like it popping up, giving the impression it sucks. Yet for all of these threads / posts there are many more supporting the game.

As far as I can work out, guild PvE towns have 3 tiers (so do buildings). Structures placed in them can benefit guild members (i.e. healing buffs and such from temples etc). Towns seem to be instanced off. When a town is tier 3 the guild can then place a border keep in the border lands - these lands are not instanced (unless there are hundreds there) so there are only a set number of keep places (they have to be built in specific places). If there are none availible, you can raid another guilds keep to take the land to build your own. These raids do seem to be instanced at 48 vs 48. I'm not sure what benefit a border keep has to a guild though. The current structure seems to suggest the elite guilds will control all the keep places and the casuals might be blocked out of that part of the game.
There's a video floating around from a German launch party which shows the towns and this info - so it's not braking NDS afaik,

To expand on this, it seems the guild city is actually the battle keep. Not sure how this works then due to guild cities being instanced away: "hey guys, were raiding <some guild> in guild city instance 34!" breaks the immersion somewhat, but it explains how they can enforce the 48vs48 limit now.

That can't be right, there'd be no point fighting over cities if they weren't high profile spots on the main game world that gave the guild some visibility and bragging rights for having conquered.

If it's all going to be instanced it'd be completely naff, but I don't see how they're going to limit numbers otherwise.

My pre-order's cancelled until I find out a bit more, not in a rush to experience the first few days of chaos anyway.

The information in my last post is from a guild currently testing this area of the game. it does seem kind of odd considering what was even known a day ago.

No the guild cities and battlekeeps are 2 different things. Every guild can have a guild city (which is in a seperate instance to the main game, 4 cities to an instance I think it was going to be). Those cities cannot be attacked by other players.

Then there are the battlekeeps (9 on each server), which (effectively) can be owned by the 9 best performing guilds in the PvP minigames. These battlekeeps can be attacked by other players (at a prearranged time, you cant just turn up and attack it whenever you want), and the sieging of those battlekeeps is also instanced (48 people v 48 people)

Thats how it was last time I played in the closed beta, unless they have changed it in the last couple of days, and I would hope they wouldnt be changing game systems as major as that this close to release.

Agreed that locks were great PVE soloing but i never really instanced as one in a group as i got to 70 then concentrated on arena.

Had a brief look at demonologist but necro seemed more fun but will look again :)

Wow, over a year in beta and BK pvp hasn't been tested at all?

So I assume you were talking about guild cities that you've tested?

I wouldnt go so far as to say fully tested no, much of it was "on paper", but some aspects of it could be tested.

SO is this AOC looking like a winner?

For some, for others no, depends largely upon how you like your MMOs to be.

the whole solo/tutorialness for first 20 looks like it makes a lot of sense.
picking what class want to be in stages (i saw lvl 5 then lvl 20 mentioned) is a great way to do this :D

readon on the age of conan site found a lot of info too (just took a good few hours to read it all!) So after lvl 20 its completly free/ish mmo world :D?

I pre ordered, not sure if should get the ce or not though.
