Age of Conan

I think the PvE servers will be similar, all pvp areas (except capturable resource areas) will be instanced, meaning they can have different rule sets.

I'm guessing when you want to attack/defend a battle keep, you just go somewhere to 'travel' there, then you either start inside or outside the keep.

I'm a little unsure on all the details, what a know is fairly accurate and is subject to change.

There's a 'lobby' system for Capture the Skull/Team Annihilation, just set your level filters and away you go.

Not sure on the mercenary system, you do get paid for it though, I'm sure there will be a paycut if you don't win though =p.

I don't like the look of War either but I think their reasoning behind less detailed character models is the fact there will be potentially huge pvp battles (anyone who did relic raids in DAOC will know what I am talking about) and I think with Conans level of detail this just would not be possible, hence a little compromise. Would be interesting to see if there will be large battles in Conan, thats a big interest to me, plus the less cartoony graphics!

Up to this point though DAOC had my favourite PVP of all time.

I read in an interview one of the game designers saying you could have two 60 man guilds having a siege battle against each other. Don't know how that compares to war though. Also I have no idea whether that will actually happen or if it was just bs.

mostly that sucks for me as i'm not a fan of pvp in general. Conan is supposed to be aimed more at "fun" choices as opposed to good and bad choices for characters. WOW pvp, maybe not the best example, but i just found it boring. i don't want to kit out a character just to go fight in pvp, or only go after certain people because they are weak to my build its just not fun, its work. which is why i mostly do pve stuff in mmorpg's, i mostly treat them as very long RPG's with the occasional group.

Lotro is pretty good in a pve respect but too much grouping is actually needed in so far as, if you're on at the wrong time and you're unlucky it can take days to get groups for harder instances of less busy parts of the world.

City of Heroes/villains has the best setup around, scalable instanced battles and mostly traversable non instanced world that some stuff needs groups to take down, the big monsters. but the INstances were set up, arch villians if you ran the hardest difficulty or had a group of more than 4, or a scaled down final boss if you were solo'ing. Still a little group only content and pvp area's and what not which was all great. the sheer scalability of the game, where you could make it really as easy/hard as you wanted is what i want. sometimes theres just an insanely hard mission and you could rather than wait 3 days for a group, restart it, get it done and move on.

ok, to be fair, i think fighting for a keep sounds like it might be fun, depending on how combat works and how fun it is to fight other player characters, hell the whole game might suck, i don't know yet. But as with most games you get the feeling Keep fighting stuff will be the strict domain of hugely high end guilds, which unfortunately does lend itself to heavily expensive high level items if it can only be crafted while you have a keep. Anyway, we'll have to wait and see. the basic old pvp, instance 5vs 5, 10vs 10, wow style area's just seem completely pointless to me. If conan makes it so any setup has a chance to kill anyone and its fairly even while still being your idea of a fun character that might change it. If you really do need certain builds again that would mean Keep fights you won't get in a battle unless you are the right type of rogue or mage, i hate that mentality :(

Nope they are there, just a lot of people never used to know about them.

One other setting to make sure you have set right is the Texture LOD slider under advanced, make sure it's set at zero.

There's a box at the very bottom of the Advanced settings that needs to be unticked too, that one requires a restart.

Here's what toons look like with the Force Low Shaders unticked (press alt+z to get rid of the UI if you want to make sure they can't trace it back to your account ;) )

Edit - Sorry for the size, but it was the best way to show the detail.

Go into the debug graphics settings and look for the two Force Low Shaders boxes, make sure both are unticked.

No, low shaders wasn't ticked, this was from the tech beta, so it probably doesn't have the same amount of graphics as general.

The screens are from tech test, not general.

I noticed since the last tech test about 2-3 weeks ago, you had to download 2gb of updates, so the tech test folder is now 14gb lol.

The tech test client is identical to the general one now.

Hmm, strange. General looks and feels different to tech. Maybe its something i haven't changed in the tech or the fact that the folder is 17gb, so the installs doggy.

Game were doing it for 17.99 a few weeks back, cause a mate of mine ordered it then, but I see now that they have upped it to 24.99. Though he has an email saying they will honour the 17.99 for him

Hows the Beta going for this game, undecided weather to try it when it comes out. How do you beta guys think it will run on a P4 3Ghz, 1 GB RAM, X850XT 256MB?

judging from it not running on a 3500+ 1gb and a 6800GT id say not very.. since it wont even run!

Im undecided at the mo, I quite like the combat, but the amount of bugs i run into.. they are like the WoW combat evade ones.. but much more common at the moment.. iv barely scratched the games surface raelly though, mostly becuase i run into the bugs and get annoyed.. and i can never seem to log into the tech tests when they are running.

It would run very poorly right now, but we have debugging stuff being run in the background constantly plus they still have to upgrade the engine a little. At release i'd guess at low to medium settings.

Here's the latest system requirements that they put on the website :

Required
OS: Windows Vista/XP
Processor: 3GHz Pentium IV
RAM: 1GB RAM
Video Card: Shader Model 2.0 and 128MB RAM: NVIDIA GeForce 5800 or ATI 9800

Recommended
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz (E6600) or better
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7950GX2 or better
RAM: 2GB or more

Tbh i doubt very much a pc with those graphics cards could run it at all as people with better including x800 cards are complaining it runs badly for them on low just now.

Bear with it, they had some problems with the server saying it was full etc when it wasn't, plus with so many people trying to log in at once lately to tech tests. The full server notice has just been fixed and the actual servers are getting a lot of background work atm so the large amount of people trying to log in shouldn't be a problem on the next tech test.
