I don't like the look of War either but I think their reasoning behind less detailed character models is the fact there will be potentially huge pvp battles (anyone who did relic raids in DAOC will know what I am talking about) and I think with Conans level of detail this just would not be possible, hence a little compromise. Would be interesting to see if there will be large battles in Conan, thats a big interest to me, plus the less cartoony graphics!
Up to this point though DAOC had my favourite PVP of all time.
mostly that sucks for me as i'm not a fan of pvp in general. Conan is supposed to be aimed more at "fun" choices as opposed to good and bad choices for characters. WOW pvp, maybe not the best example, but i just found it boring. i don't want to kit out a character just to go fight in pvp, or only go after certain people because they are weak to my build its just not fun, its work. which is why i mostly do pve stuff in mmorpg's, i mostly treat them as very long RPG's with the occasional group.
Lotro is pretty good in a pve respect but too much grouping is actually needed in so far as, if you're on at the wrong time and you're unlucky it can take days to get groups for harder instances of less busy parts of the world.
City of Heroes/villains has the best setup around, scalable instanced battles and mostly traversable non instanced world that some stuff needs groups to take down, the big monsters. but the INstances were set up, arch villians if you ran the hardest difficulty or had a group of more than 4, or a scaled down final boss if you were solo'ing. Still a little group only content and pvp area's and what not which was all great. the sheer scalability of the game, where you could make it really as easy/hard as you wanted is what i want. sometimes theres just an insanely hard mission and you could rather than wait 3 days for a group, restart it, get it done and move on.
ok, to be fair, i think fighting for a keep sounds like it might be fun, depending on how combat works and how fun it is to fight other player characters, hell the whole game might suck, i don't know yet. But as with most games you get the feeling Keep fighting stuff will be the strict domain of hugely high end guilds, which unfortunately does lend itself to heavily expensive high level items if it can only be crafted while you have a keep. Anyway, we'll have to wait and see. the basic old pvp, instance 5vs 5, 10vs 10, wow style area's just seem completely pointless to me. If conan makes it so any setup has a chance to kill anyone and its fairly even while still being your idea of a fun character that might change it. If you really do need certain builds again that would mean Keep fights you won't get in a battle unless you are the right type of rogue or mage, i hate that mentality
