Alan Smith

Why do you think of him as the worst of the lot Gilly?
I would have thought that Kewell,Rio,Cantona and Viduka would head the disliked ex-Leeds players list ahead of Smith, who at least stayed on until the bitter end,and didn't screw you over with his transfer deal

Tis true

He was also crying his eyes out when they were relegated anyone remember
him and Robinson in the papers?

He also left to try and further his own ambitions as an England international
something he wouldnt have been able to do playing in the Championship
for the last 2 seasons (ask Andy Johnson and Steve Bull)

And although it was a low down thing to do if you dont look after number 1
nobody else will

Reasons I've already mentioned really. He said he'd never join them, and when he did he said we weren't rivals.

It was purely because of his supposed love for the club and fans that made it worse.

Rio made us money (though not as much as reported), Kewell isn't far off Smith with the dirty tricks he and his agents pulled, but he's been poo since he left and was on-and-off for his last 2 seasons with us, Cantona was forced out because he couldn't keep his filthy hands to himself...

sed=said - playground slang

Presume Steve Bruce`s daughter is the source of the charity rumour (looking at her Dad, she cant be up to much). His attitude on the pitch is epitomised by the running swearing - from what I can tell, referees let him off because they realise he doesn`t have the vocabulary to pad out full sentences without expletives.

Sounds like a made up word to me. Sorry who do you support again? I think I may already know. :o

My point is more along the lines that thousands of athletes fail to make anything of their potential due to injury - and struggle as a result. He`s in a far more secure position than the majority. He is no world beater - the public have not been robbed of any majestic ability, he doesn`t have to worry about paying his medical bills. As tragedy`s go, this is chipped tooth.
Once again you mention money, that will be the absolute least of his worries in this situation. Having 'It' and losing 'It' is what will be the biggest worry for him.

Doesn`t have anything to do with it. Have you?
Has an awful lot to do with it. You've mentioned on more than one occasion his foul mouth & limited vocabulary. If you'd of played competitive sports you'd know that even in the most noblest of games that is almost the norm nowadays & doesn't have any reflection on the lad's intelligence, personality or whether he deserves an injury or not:)

Have you not considered that football is what he loves, and money means nothing too him. This could stop him doing what he wants to do for the rest of his life.
Did you not see that Dyer considered suicide due to not being able to do what he loved, play football.

This doesn`t do anything to alter my point - he has been very lucky to live out his dreams to this point. Many equally talented people are not so lucky. He`s also financially set for life. He could walk (limp) away now and have a happy normal life. Gushes of sentimentality that have been posted seem to forget how privileged this guy is.

Exactley

He gave up the right to over £1.5million pounds owed to him by Leeds United because they wanted to sell him (break contract with the player) and at no point did he put in a transfer request (break contract with the club). Upon sale he gave that money up instead prefering to let us stop with Leeds United as they were in that much financial trouble.

If there was anyone who should be called the worst of the lot in then it's Kewell. Knowing full well the ammount of Debt Leeds were in he went to Liverpool knowing he would maximise his wages and signing on fee there and he went in the full knowledge that Bernie Mandic and his company got £2 million out of the £3million for the transfer deal. Thats loyalty for you

Leeds always need a Judas though. They are just have selective memories on who it is

So your now saying there should be no sentimentallity for those more financially privellaged than the rest of us ?

At something he has worked very hard to achieve often missing out
on lifes little pleasures in the meantime

Hes never been drunk from what ive heard and we have all seen the
footage/pics of when he was a young lad and all he wanted to do was
play football for Leeds

Although footballers are obviously overpaid some players actually deserve
the money they earn through shear hard work when they were getting
paid a pittance

We all know how privileged he is and still is and I'm sure he knows he is as well. Why should that stop up us from showing some sentimentality or respect for a good player?

No reason at all.

Why don't you try reading my comments other than my hatred?

There's a few players that have done the dirty on Leeds, and my thoughts on them are as described.

He's still the worst.

Point is that he has "had" it - most dont. He`s been a lucky boy, set for life. Fate gave him his career and can decide when it is over.

Regarding the verbals, it doesn`t have to be a part of even a working class sport like football. A lot of players do it, but Smith takes it to obnoxious levels, hence the regard he is held in by most football supporters. Going up the levels there is usually a greater respect and level of behaviour amongst players. If this were true of football, Smith would be sunday league.

You must see different footage of United than I do, I can safely say that he doesn't swear any more than the next player. What are you a closet Utd fan? lol

Hardwork and determination got Smith to where he is today, not fate.

Why won't you tell me what team you support?

There are few thoughts for those who haven`t made it. Its like racehorses - there`ll be another one racing next week.

I think the level of swearing at Utd is just a magnitude or two higher than elsewhere.

You obviously have no idea how hard it is for some people to become full/part time football players. Yes, many players have natural talent and they are certainly lucky. However, many players have to work extremely hard to be any good at all.

David Beckham as an example has no natural talent whatsoever. He had to work hard to be as good as he is, if he couldn’t play again tomorrow I’m sure he’d be devastated. Same for Alan Smith.

He may of 'had it' but the fact that he may have a financial cushion should it all go, won't make it any easier for him. Is it really better to have loved & lost, if you can never love again?

Most football supporters couldn't give a monkey's if you swore or not as long as your passion was evident, if you think they do, you are far removed from reality:p

sedm I don't want to be associated with you in this thread, I've shared honest opinions and not been at all veiled and I've answered any questions directed my way honestly and directly, not seeking to avoid them.

It does seem that we're on the same side of the fence through lack of sympathy for the subject at hand, and I'd prefer not to be on the side that has trolling going on. So stop.
