The graphics and FPS does take a rather large hit on running Oculus though -
The resolution is 1080 x 1920 total, so 540 x 960 per eye
To quote olivier renault
It renders in a bigger frame buffer than just 1080p (to compensate for the lensing effect near the middle of the screen). You should be able to monitor the FPS and double check. It also renders twice per frame (once for each eye, but 1/2 the screen for each).
So you need to maintain 75fps constant to match 75hz of the Rift DK2, otherwise it will judder and you will start feeling very bad... So you would ideally need to hold ~150fps in 1080p with whatever settings to use DK2
When you are used to 2560 x 1440 for both eyes, dont expect it to look anywhere near as crisp
However... You are inside an Alien horror survival game! Its no longer a flat image on your monitor, you can look behind you, around corners, under and over things. Real next gen stuff IMO
That's disgusting I mean come on people, a simple reminder would suffice but suspension is a little far....
He's a genuine contributor at OcUK. You can tell he has a really impressive artistic flare and I really look forward to every little thing he posts about this game. Now, by the time he's back most of us (including mrk) will have completed the game so we won't be seeing anything more.
Chromatic aberration looks awfull its just another of those stupid fake effects they add to make it look like your looking through a camera instead of real life lol.

You need (75x2) 150 FPS in 1920x1080 resolution!! Surly that's ridiculously difficult to achieve even on upper mid range systems. Why, is my question, if a monitor has a 60Hz refresh rate can it still happily play a game at 40FPS without stuttering?
That's a seriously limiting issue especially if the first consumer version (CV1) uses a 2560x1440 resolution display... and folks are asking for 4K!
Not played it in a few days as I have been working nights. Hopefully I will get stuck in over the next few nights though. Looking forward to it, but games seem to take forever for me to complete nowadays!
Although I haven't completed, I'd say some of the scare factor is taken away once you acquire the motion tracker - which annoyingly doesn't have the right sound effects.
Not really, as the Alien can double back and move so fast the tracker is only so useful I think.. the main item which gives you confidence in surviving must be the Flame thrower for me, although its of limited use on the androids.
I finished the game and the DLC a couple of days ago and its GOTY for me, it even got me re watching all 4 movies too, and I think the game really did justice to the first 2 in the series...
Oh yeah they don't use the original iconic motion sensor sound, that has to be some silly legal issue because that sound was excellent. Normally they can get around legal stuff by replicating the sound themselves so I wonder what happened there?
You're right, the flamethrower is both bad and excellent. I think it's introduced right at the perfect time because you can use it with vigor and in your head hear Sigourney Weaver's voice saying "GET BACK YOU *****."
Oh my gosh that Android cemetery area is HORRIBLE!!!! It's taken a lot of effort to get here and I'm frazzled.

You dont always need 75x2, up to apparently (to match the refresh rate) If not you would drop below the low persistence rate and it would become stuttery. That's the reason there are lots of games / simulators with pretty poor graphics but are great at 3D
My monitor is 60hz and yes, I can game at 40fps but as soon as you put something on your head that is designed to be 75hz with vsync on (so 75fps) you will run into all sort of problems - massive stutter or tearing if vsync is not on. Not a good VR experience at all.
Yes - CV1 is going to be very demanding as will also be 90 or 120hz. So whatever game you play its going to possibly require 240fps in 1440p / 4k! Yes, you could down the res and hz but that would be like going back to DK2 / DK2. Best get saving for some decent GPU power if you want to play Crysis 3 on Oculus CV1!!
Failing that, just play game that have been build ground up for Oculus or will be built ground up for CV1 - High FPS on mid range systems, not the best graphics but fantastic 3D experience

Tried out the graphical tweaks. Shadows are good but the planar reflections change is awful. Doesn't fit at all with the art style (in keeping with the first film), I can see why they removed it.
