Alien: Romulus - Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead) to write/direct

Though when they left their colony, no one noticed or said anything?
The movie happens over the course of a very short space of time.

The ship they took does regular ore runs, and some of the people on board were the crew. The whole point is that they are going to the station to get cryo pods/fuel because the ship doesn't have those.

Because of that reason, the ship can't go anywhere far without everyone dying so there's no reason for Weyland Yutani to keep a close watch over it.

A few bits like that didn't have any convincing development behind them which was a shame, I guess the premise was mining ships were coming and going all the time but still it sticks out.

I thought it was about as good as we are going to get short of something revolutionary, the themes and motifs which were a nod to Alien and Aliens were good, reusing quotes from those movies though I'm not a fan of, just far too on the nose.

Same here, I think its fine to have the occasional "a little nod" to a past film which is fine but then there just a a stream of blatant rip offs that, for me at least, pulled me out of the movie with a heavy cringe-filled sigh.

The "get away from her" line was full cringe - even the actor looked like they were aware of how much cringe it was.

To be honest the script was passable at best, didn't do anything new despite some neat concepts/ideas and the story didn't really go anywhere interesting - I didn't care for the ending at all. That said I thought they captured many aspects of the universe well so I hope they build on it.

Knocks Prometheus out the park, huh?

Personally, I enjoyed Prometheus more than Romulus. It’s not necessarily a better movie, but I found the story in Prometheus more compelling. Romulus felt like déjà vu with another alien waiting to meet the final airlock boss. Romulus rehashes the same ground but doesn't improve on the original.

Nothing can hold a candle to the original, the characters were so much better with so many memorable quotes

- That’s It, Man. Game Over, Man. Game Over!
- Hey Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man? No. Have you?

R.I.P Bill Paxton

No different to the constant "it was ok" type comments which then get a 7/10.

I'm just over half way through and it's pants to be fair.

A 7/10 is a hell of a lot more balanced than a 1/10, they're nowhere near the same extremes.

I gave it a strong six or weak seven earlier in this thread after seeing it in the cinema, it's absolutely flawed and the fan service is over the top. The references to literally every other movie in the franchise are another negative, it feels less refined than it otherwise could have been. Visually it's beautiful on a shoestring budget compared to most Hollywood crap that costs several times as much. The setting and theme fit the franchise perfectly. The soundtrack was well done and again suitable to the Alien universe. The acting was a mixed bag, Andy was by far the highlight but he was also imo the main focus of the movie while mostly surrounded by throw away characters. There were some excellent scenes. It did more right than wrong in my mind, but I do feel it was too much compressed into a movie that might have been better as a tv series.

It's the best we've had by far since Aliens, or arguably the Alien 3 Assembly Cut.

Then again, didn't you give Bad Boys: Ride or Die a 10/10 and Kill Command the same score? Maybe you're a fairly black and white type.
