Alienware announces the AW2725DF and AW3225QF (worlds first 4k 240hz and worlds first 1440p 360hz QD-OLED monitors - launches January 2024)

Not played in a long time and nothing else to play atm and also curious to see how it looked on this panel. It's just until something new comes out but alas, the problem is always going to be there in those kind of conditions i.e. anything dark, grey scale like with fps below 100 it seems. I think I have noticed it in most games now but this one is by far the worse yet to the point, I had to quit the game as it lasts for that entire misison so far.....

Yeah man. That video looks terrible. I would not want to play it like that either tbh.

My solution would be reduce to 120hz or turn of vrr for that said game. Not a issue for me as long as it is once in a blue moon.

100%. You won't easily get that kind of money for it ever again.

How often are you exactly having flicker issues?

Depends on the game. Anything where there is any dark scenes, uniform grey/dark scenes and fps below 100 so if a scene like that is only on screen for say a minute, fine, can deal with it but if like that mission in tlou where it lasts a while or/and the whole game is like that, well, big fat meh, I won't be playing the game then.

Just booted into windows and i had vertical lines going up my monitor. Turning it off/on didnt help and rebooting windows didnt help. I ran a pixel refresh and its fixed it. Should i be worried?

Dude, why are you letting mrk influence you like that?

He would say he won't play a game if wrong as pect ratio or would not bother enabling DLDSR or turn on hdr. Lol

Just stick it on 120 or 144hz if that is an option. Job done. Wtf

Not really. Next day replacement from Dell. Why worry?

Does that even fix it though? I can't recall exactly but I think the only way to fix it is by pushing FPS as high as possible or disabling vrr (which is a big no)

It did for me. Before the firmware update we got back then at 175hz I would see the vrr flicker in tlou menu and mortal kombat 11 menu.

As soon as I went 144hz it was gone. That is why I am saying try it out. I know that is what I would do. Would be just for the said game.

The VRR flicker is really ruining this monitor at times for me so much that I am actually considering switching back to the aw34dw now. First time playing TLOU on this panel and even with hitting 70+ fps, it just flickers like mad, think this is the worst case scenario I have seen.

Silly question but are you on the latest firmware?

Drop refresh rate down to 120hz and it will help but then why did we pay for 240hz when we get vrr flicker.

But again, it is not on like every game. When it does happen, it also means you are not getting enough fps anyway as I understand it.

Way I see it is say you are managing 100fps or something and have the flicker, just stick.it on 120hz on that occasion. When the alternative is to go back and play it on 1440p display, I know which I would choose :p

I have not experienced this with mine (yet). I have only played two games though.

Ghost of Tsushima and Elden Ring so I wonder if its game dependant?

It is very game dependant. It doesn't even happen on every dark game.

Also Nexus only has a 3080 so struggling in terms of fps. Bet things will improve soon once he gets a 5080.

Are you saying the fix is to lower the refresh rate of the monitor?

Indeed. Surprised Nexus does mot even remember this as we spoke about it quite a bit about a year or two ago. It was one of the biggest reasons to stick to 144hz rather than 175hz on the ultrawide oled.

Not here, BUT I do tend to tune the settings for close to maximum fps.

Yeah man. There are many ways around it. Almost a non issue in my book relative to the upside of what the monitor offers.

Would it be great if the issue was not there, sure. Would I miss out on a game because of it? Hell no. Lower to 120hz or tweak your settings. Job done. Once in a blue moon scenario anyway.

Exactly. It's the main reason I kept the monitor  Sure you won't get the full benefit if not pushing the fps too but there is still a benefit to responsiveness etc. as blurbusters has stated.

If I was happy faffing about before every game I played, I would have kept the aw34dw and used DLDSR

175hz flicker was never that bad even before the firmware update and it was mostly just in static scenes/menu.

I played through that mission and got to the next stage and even without any dark scenes, it's in the museum library where tess stays..... it is still flickering, fps is at 90+ too so for whatever reason, this game just isn't playing well without a better vrr system.

As said, it's fine, I'll just switch to the aw34dw when games like this are particularly problematic, not like TLOU is one of those games which sees a huge boost with 4k anyway and 21.9 is much better for this game too given third person shooter. Roll on next gen 21.9 oleds already!

I assumed you got it for the better image quality. That's my main reason :)

Agreed, was never too bad, but the point being made is dropping down to 144hz solved the issue. So dropping from 240hz to 120hz should make a difference.

Did you try dropping to 120hz to see if it made a difference?

As I recall DLDSR did make a decent difference. But yeah, not huge.

16:9 is life! Sell the 21:9 monitor already. Your friend is waiting to over pay when you are ready :p

Imagine faffing around using both monitors. That's a faff and a half
