Alienware announces the AW2725DF and AW3225QF (worlds first 4k 240hz and worlds first 1440p 360hz QD-OLED monitors - launches January 2024)

Surely if you get a monitor with dead pixels you send it back straight away ?
Probably should when they are this expensive, but if it's barely noticeable I can pretend it doesn't exist very easily. as long as it's just the one and not centre screen
@mrk went through 14 ultradewide AW OLEDs this way and they just kept sending them out.
Wow that's nuts..
I'm going to burn mine in 100%

I browse the net and watch youtube without it being full screen way too often.
I've already set microsoft Edge to dark colour scheme and set the task bar to autohide, but other than that it's not my problem.

I'd use my old screen for non-gaming but Id need some kinda monitor mount that would let me pull it front of the Alienware :/ which I doubt exists or is exactly practical

anyway not my prob if they bring tech to the market that's not ready

They should give you a white screen that attaches to the monitor and a small projector for when your being productive/non-productive

I’m still too terrified to get OLED due to my iMac 5k developing brutal levels of burn in several years back.

I have recently (yesterday) got the QF. I also have the 34in DWF (the ultrawide version of this monitor) and the QD-OLED has been absolutely fine with daily use both with my PC and my work laptop over the past 2 years. I have absolutely no burn in whatsoever, and I have really checked for it!

I took no special measures such as auto hiding my taskbar etc. I just made sure that my power plan settings put the display to sleep when inactive for 5mins - which I think is the default under the balanced Windows power plan anyway.

Just run the pixel refresh every 4hrs when prompted and leave the monitor in standby rather than power off when not in use. Then it can do it automatically when the PC is off/sleeping when required.

mine says

Arriving today 1:45 PM - 4:45 PM

but the GPS tracking hasn't even started to show yet... starting to think there's a crashed delivery van somewhere

Nice it arrived :D now got to quickly run some errands before I can set it up.

Wow going to 4k from ultrawide seem really weird.

and the curve on this monitor is weird too, Ima have to get a spirit level out cos I either seems to be tilted too much towards me or too far away.

0 dead/stuck pixels though :D

The curve is the same as the ultrawide assuming you had a QD-OLED before. Soon the size of the ultrawide will feel small compared to 32" too.

Yeah it's one of those you'll get used to. It did feel a bit strange for me too to begin with but quickly got used to it.

I wasn't sure about the curve when I was looking to buy it, but again, I got used to it very quickly.

Ultra wide is soo wide easy to ignore the curve, those parts of the screen are barely in the peripheral vision

with this monitor is feels like all 4 corners are bending out at me :O

how far do you all sit back from a 34inch 4k monitor? I'm about 34inches away, should I move it closer so it fills more of my vision? or do I just need to adjust.

The heights crazy though, It's like looking up at "the wall" in game of thrones., I never realised how much height you miss on an ultrawide

There is no 34" 4K OLED, do you mean 32?

As for distance, purely down to individual preferences and eyesight. Adjust windows display scaling to suit what feels right and that's it really.

I am currently using mine at 100% scaling and the monitor is about two foot or less from my eyes.

Some use it like 4 foot away. Might as well be on a much lower resolution monitor then as your eyes won't be able to tell the difference imo.

I am 55-60cm away with 125% scaling in Windows as text looks about the same size as 100% on the 34" 3440x1440. It also means I don't need to look up by tilting my head to see top areas of the screen.

Dude. You take the **** out of me for being too close and you are similar to me

I have been as close as 30cm in the past though tbf

60cm isn't close tbf, that's the distance from the bottom of my mouse surface to the screen lol, so a desk width which is normal. 30cm is abnormal

This is you :D

With AW3225QF G-syncs surely better than VESA Adaptive sync right?

100% scaling seems tiny to me, I've set it to 125% but would probably prefer 135% if it were an option, I guess there's probably a regedit or something to add more options.

The manual says
"Set the distance of the screen between 20 to 28 in. (50 - 70 cm) from your eyes"
so MRK is within that. I need to pull it about 6 inch closer it seems

oops yea 32inch

Take regular and frequent breaks for 20 minutes every two hours. 4. Look away from your monitor and gaze at a distant object that is 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds during the breaks.
surely no one does that? I've sat watching a screen for 6 + hours a day most days for about 10 years.

My eye sight must still be fine if I can read the screen easy from 36inches away when they recommend 28 or less.

Maybe you become near sighted though.. hmm

Playing like bf2 or something I bet most of us have been watching the same few pixels in the centre of the screen for 12 hours before with only pee breaks

Isn't it usually just the outstretched arm test? If you can stretch your arm out from where you sit, you should just be able to touch your screen. That's always what I've aimed for, obviously differs slightly depending on monitor res/size but that's largely what I try for.

I move my monitor about regularly tbf, I have it all the way back when I'm working as I'm sat further back in my chair and then pull it slightly more towards me when I'm playing games with mouse and keyboard so I can slightly sit forward.

VRR is VRR, Gsync/Freesync/Adaptive sync employ the same stuff. Gsync just has a slightly wider VRR range.

What about people with unusually short arms like most members of SC, or those with super long arms like most members of sports arena :chin thinking emoji:

Monitor: AW3225QF
Device Used: Calibrite Display Pro HL (can read upto 3000nits definitely worth if you have 200 to burn, or I guess you could borrow one from amazon, the seal on the box ain't exactly tamper proof, or this was one someone borrowed, it was just a piece of white tape)

Obviously both of the options under Game > Preset Modes > creator on your monitors menu

DCI-P3 went darker than the default dell ICC file I'm not convinced its proper good, although dark colours seem much better
on mine it does look better, but I'm not sure if whites have enough luminance, you can use a custom setting but I just had the calibrator read the screen and use the same luminance as dell did for that mode.
Brightness 21%
Gamma 2.2
Contrast 75

sRGB ICC profile created seems much better on mine, almost like removing a layer of haze on the screen on the before and after.
sRGB Brightness 38
Gamma 2.2
Contrast 75

How to use
Press the windows key and type "col" and launch colour management
The fastest way to switch installed profiles if right click the desktop, click Display Settings and it's the second option down.

Every monitor is different, but those are the results I got for mine.
Dell dsiplay app auto switches the ICC profile to match the mode (colour tab > advanced in the dell display app) ,but it doesn't seem theres any option for custom ICC profiles, I guess renaming them to the same as the dell default profiles would work.
Windows stores all the monitor profiles at C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color

I'll have to play around with it some more tomorrow, it should be capable of making a HDR profile too
