Alienware announces the AW2725DF and AW3225QF (worlds first 4k 240hz and worlds first 1440p 360hz QD-OLED monitors - launches January 2024)

Pretty much confirming what a few of us have been saying for a while now! 4k DLSS perf better than DLSS quality 1440p

I think this video confirms what I have also been saying about 4k over 1440p, motion clarity is noticeably better there. From 1.10 onwards, dlss 4k looks a lot cleaner/clearer than the others even though it is slightly less fps than 1440p dlss quality.

Is it a significant FPS hit? The more these dual mode OLEDs get rave reviews, the more I’m tempted by the 4k240hz/1080p480hz.

Using DLSS to get good frames to play games at 4k - then swapping to 1080 for my unhealthy competitive fps itch.

DLDSR on 1440p? It would be pretty similar to 4k dlss perf. but more of a fps hit as there is some overhead with dldsr. IIRC, for example in ghost of tshumia using 1.78x @ 3440x1440 with dlss perf. I was getting about 80-100 depending on area where as with 4k and dlss perf I am getting 110+ fps. Performance really hasn't been an issue for me at all on the 3080 surprisingly.

EDIT:

Ah sorry, in my post in gpu subforum regarding this, I mentioned about DLDSR for 1440p but not in this thread.

If you mean 4k gaming being a big hit with dlss perf? Then definetly not imo. Basically in every game so far, 4k with dlss perf has been better IQ than 1440p dlss quality and not much different in perf.

do not know about how your setup would manage exactly, but expect a 40% fps hit more or less
40%? That’s nuts, not sure where getting that from. Not had much of a hit going from 34” 1440 UW to 32” 4k at all.

I went from G8 OLED UW to the DW32 a few weeks ago, expected a hit from doing so.

My frames on Tarkov are literally the same, weirdly on some maps I was hitting slightly more frames (Lighthouse). On one map (Streets) I got a decrease of around 15%.

Others game I’ve played the frames are generally consistent as before. I think the “hit” going from Ultrawide 1440 to 4k is really overstated online. YMMV though!

Specs: 7800x3D + 4090

There's a lot of reddit chatter on "how" to clean QD-OLED, it seems to have stirred a whole lot of debate, some saying you must use distilled water etc.

Rubbish!

KISS principle, clean microfibre, I pinched one of my Amazon MFs that I bought for the car and if needed, damp it under a tap and wring it out then wipe in the same way, otherwise just the dry MF to clean dust etc. Breathe onto the panel for a bit of mist to remove solo spots, breath won't ever leave streaks.

I took the plunge and ordered the AW3225QF, managed to get it for £800 too. Are there any good setup guides for what options i should enable on it and in windows / games etc?

I think everyone is pretty much agreed that the factory calibration is usually good enough. You could try a bit of vibrancy etc using NCP if you’re so inclined and have a Nvidia GPU. I keep HDR off unless I’m playing or watching HDR titles, usual tips ..I use wallpaper engine and I personally have hid desktop shortcuts, auto hide taskbar with some of my favourite apps etc pinned to taskbar including settings so I can turn on/off HDR quicker... Hope this helps.

There's a handy How to Clean section in the monitor's manual.

Interestingly, they do state that cleaning it wrong will potentially invalidate your warranty.

Did people have as much trouble as I did with the IO back panel thing? I had to leave mine off as it was impossible to get it on properly with the wires at the back.

Too much wire thickness to fit the back panel.

got the AW3225QF set monitor with the TFT central settings from youtube. Downloaded windows HDR calibration from the store. Ran the calibration, end result pic: before calibration, sun is washed out with clouds, after calibration sun is outline is visible. Is that how it's meant to look?

Also is HDR always on now? even during normal desktop windows activity? i thought it was supposed to auto switch on and off SDR/HDR depending on if there's an HDR application running?

If you are on Win 11, win+alt+b turns hdr on and off. It is recommended to turn it on only when for content (turn it on before booting your content not while the content like a game or vid is already on).
