Alienware announces the AW2725DF and AW3225QF (worlds first 4k 240hz and worlds first 1440p 360hz QD-OLED monitors - launches January 2024)

Yeah, I was under that assumption. Not that much in the range of 40% but I was expecting a hit. I will stick with the DWF and wait for next (or next next) GPU gen to be able to run 4K well without any sort of up/down-scaling. It's just that little devil behind the ear "you can get the QF for about 200 quid once you sell your DWF".

In that case, you'll always be waiting, as shown, even with a 4090, you really need upscaling for most games, especially if you're wanting more than 120 fps.....

That's exactly the case apart from "always be waiting".. In one or two gen we should be able to drive 4k with just raw gpu power.. once we are there, I'll bit the bullet.

Still not over how silent this monitor is, it's been like over a year since I was able to compute at my desk in total silence. The sound of my arm brushing against the mouse surface is almost too loud now

Should also add that upscaling once you get to 3440x1440 or above is better than native 99% of the time anyway. More detail, better sharpness, better fps. I'll continue to use DLSS over DLAA/TAA for exactly this reason and enjoy triple figure framerates in everything.

Yes there are exceptions here and there but those are old engine related or niche engine quirks in those games.

Speaking of silence, the fan on my aw34 has decided to stay on permanently since going back to it yesterday. Always used to stop once display cooled down being in standby or off.

I watched The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare on it last night and I found it to be a better experience than watching a movie on the aw32. Quite a bit better imo.

CB2077 HDR colours are slightly more vivid on the aw32, and I'd say 4k DLSS performance is more detailed than 3440x1440 DLSS quality albeit not by much. If you just play and enjoy the game you're not going to notice the detail difference imo unless you're looking for it. All in all it's still stunning on the aw34.

Played some of my other games too and honestly I think I'm happier with the aw34 with what I use my PC for. Still a great display. Just need to see if I can sort out this pesky fan :D

Eco mode on the DW/DWF is broken, it doesn't correctly switch OSD colour profile when waking up when Eco is on as well which is still a bug in the firmware.

Are you referring to the colour space setting on the monitor or windows colour profile in sdr/hdr? I do remember a while back on my first panel that sometimes the colour space would have a mind of its own and switch between sRGB and DCI-P3 and vice versa, but doesn't happen anymore for me. Think firmware update fixed that.

I want to keep eco mode on because if I don't the fan will run 24/7 as long as it has power, and apparently it counts plugged in hours including standby hours as usage hours for the pixel/panel refreshes, unless that's been sorted now with later firmware.

I switched eco mode off the last time I switched between monitors, wanted to see how fast it wakes compared to the aw32. Eco off does make it wake quicker, but I'm not having the fan running 24/7 lol.

On the monitor, if you set say Creator mode and have Eco mode on, then it will not revert to Creator mode's sRGB after waking up, it does when Eco is off as you can see it happen moments after the AW wakes up. Probably why they removed eco mode from gen 3 QD-OLED.

Windows should not be in HDR mode at all times for obvious reasons.

Ah yes I did have that issue with my first panel when I used creator mode sRBG, it used to sometimes default to DCI-P3 after waking it. I now use creator mode DCI-P3 all the time on the aw34 personal preference, so thankfully don't have this issue.

Yep I never use HDR in windows unless for HDR content/games etc

Just a note on P3, unless you are viewing wide gamut photos, then 99.9% of everything you view will be SRGB, and in the P3 mode the SRGB gamut is expanded which makes 99.9% of everything you look at the wrong colour tone for every colour :o

If you don't mind that then fair game, but what you see isn't what is correct! And as your eyes have adjusted to that as the norm, you won't think twice about it :p

Do you use headphones or speakers when you're at your desk? I found that I run my PC in almost silent idle conditions with some lovely fan curves - but because I use IEMs for gaming I can whack the fans to 50+ % and still can't hear a thing when I'm actually playing games!

My headphones are open back so wouldn't make a difference as I can hear the old AW Gsync fan with headphones on. Though I use speakers for gaming most of the time regardless of time of day. Even if I play at low volume the sound is really good and immersive so sometimes just playing with a subtle volume level and still have quietness is nice to have as well.
