I still don't quite understand how the Chelsea rebuilding project is supposed to work.

You have a striker who is not on form and who may or may not come good this season.

You have a very talented young player in Eden Hazard who isn't tested in the PL.

You theoretically have Hulk who has never looked good against anyone half decent.

A lot of the rest of the team is getting on and there is not a lot of depth to the squad. If Mata, Torres or Hazard gets a long term injury, who will cover for them.

Chelsea may end up with a very strong first team but the backup will be pretty poor.

We have some very exciting young players in Hazard, Mata, Kevin De Bruyne, Lukaku, Courtois, Bertrand, Luiz, Piazon, Ramires, Sturridge, and possibly Hulk. To suggest Chelsea are an aging team now is silly.

Like I said earlier in the thread I think we have a good balance of youth and experience.

Basically Abramovich has billions of quid and found out 3 key things in life, a vault full of gold isn't good to swim in, having money is useless unless everyone knows about it and finally he doesn't know enough about pc's to buy football manager...

Would be a lot cheaper for him if someone sat down and showed him the game (instead of scouting on it and pretending they know what they are doing)

Having watched Dortmund a fair few times, It's fair to say Kagawa will have more of an impact I feel than Hazard would with Chelsea. Not to say Hazard is no good, he's got FAR more potential than Kagawa will ever have.

Kagawa is the sort of player United have lacked for a very long time, A player who can run with the ball and play through balls all day long and also be able to score. A younger Scholes? When your highest scoring midfielder happens to be someone who was retired at the start of the season, you have to worry about your team.

I still don't think it's enough though, United still need a capable CM. The options they currently have either includes players who are old or injury prone.

A Javi Martinez, M'Vila or even another one of Dortmund's promising youngster Gündoğan.

Jealous much?

As for City strengthening, its probably a mistake to leave it until after the Euros esp. with financial fairplay incoming for the team. Perhaps they are struggling to offload some of the Cook rubbish.
FFP is being showed to be a mockery as seen by Chelsea at the moment?

We aren't leaving it till after the Euros at all. We are shopping for some of the best players out there at the moment so a transfer wont be done inside a week, their agents are trying to force a big fee, clubs are touting the players elsewhere to drive up the price whilst also looking at players they can bring in as a replacement. It took us all summer last year to Aguero for example.
We have a few offers in place at the moment so it is just a case of working out the details. We have shown we are not going to go over our original offers so it is now up to the club to see how far they will go before we pull out completely.

Again, transfers aren't done in a week.

Nah, chelsea got a 100mill from winning the champions league, plus whatever revenue is needed to break evenish is being thrown into the squad. Cash wise i am sure Chelsea board not going to risk being kicked out of the Champions league, esp after abramovich petitioned for its creation.

I think you are over estimating that quite a bit - even £70m is probably pushing it (given that Barca "only" got around £60 odd million the season before)

What? Where did you get a figure of 100 million for the CL. I heard its about 50 million if you win it. The only time I have ever heard of it being worth more is factoring in shirt sales and the increase in value of the players that won it but lets be honest, none of Chelsea players have increased in value from winning the CL.

Im pretty sure both Barca and Utd got over £60m from tv in 10/11 and that was highest yet

Sounds about right. I have no doubt though that a good chunk of whatever they make in the CL will go out on performance bonuses etc to the players.

I am really looking forward to seeing how the FFP regulations are enforced myself.

The 50mil figure is vastly over blown anyway, 30million of that is for getting to around the quarter finals anyway, Arsenal/Chelsea/Utd generally speaking get 25-35mil every year anyway because they almost always get to the later stages of the competition, winning it is only worth 15-20mil more than they usually get every year.

So if you made a 70mil loss, which they did, then the extra 15mil isn't going to make a dent in that. Don't forget there will be MASSIVE bonuses for any team winning something, winning a double will likely increase the bonus over winning any individual competition. Meaning 15mil extra they will get from winning, I'd guess at least half of that will end up going on bonuses.

Winning comes from being in the champs league, 2 poor teams in almost every group every year, 20-25mil for getting to the first or second knockout stage which basically any english club can do 9 out of 10 seasons.

Chelsea didn't make a whole hell of a lot extra by winning. Most if not all the CL regulars have a wage structure/squad size that already takes into account that pretty much certain 20mil, most teams who can be somewhat certain of reaching later stages will spend more on wages and a bigger team, that money is already being spent basically. A winning run which gives you 50mil, is only worth 10-15mil extra for top teams, where as missing the CL means the team will run into a 30mil loss compared to normal.

I know teams who aren't certain to be in the champs league are more likely to have wage increase/reduction based on being in/out of the cl, but the top teams, not so sure.
