Sheffield Wednesday transfer news (for the none of you that care);

Goalkeepers Sean Cuff and Richard O'Donnell, defender Jon Otsemebor, midfielder Chris Sedgwick and strikers Clinton Morrison and Vadaine Oliver are all being allowed to leave on frees.

LINK.

Pleased to see some of the deadwood being let go, hopefully can shift some more.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones is hopeful of securing a permanent deal for Reading loanee Michail Antonio.

LINK.

Hopefully we can sign Antonio up, certainly played well when we had him on loan :)

Thank god you got rid of Jon Otsemebor, the 6 months he was with us was cringe worthy (one good performance away at Norwich). Not a player for the Champ...

Antonio seems to have found somewhere he is comfortable though which is good to see (he scored a decent goal for us in the jpt final) and can only assume that getting games has really helped him along

There are theories that SAf wants to try and use a three man midfield with two AM's and a DM (or Carrick style player)

IF this is the case, while Utd already have Cleverley - two further AM's are required (if Anderson does leave /get sold), and potentially a DM as well (or a more versatile defender /cm).

With Giggs and Scholes both having only one season left (according to SAF) and both being considered as squad players rather than 1st team, imo there is a BIG gaping hole ready to be filled

There is speculation that Nani is holding out for an improved offer on his deal extension (cant remember how long he has left on his current one, but would be surprised if its over 2 years remaining - at one point Utd were not interested in re-negotiating with current players wit less than approx 18mths to go)

Macheda NOT going , are you crazy? why have Utd any reason for keeping him? I can understand your point about Anderson - although personally I think any 1/2 decent offer and he will be gone (even if Utd actually lose 1/2 of the original £18m transfer paid for him)

I'm just giving my opinion on what I think Fergie will do, and I don't think he will sell Nani or Anderson.

In an interview a few months back Fergie was saying how unlucky Macheda had been with his loans, when he went to Sampdoria the manger who wanted him got sacked not long after he arrived and the same thing happened with QPR, and then the injury after that, so he played nowhere near as much as expected. That's why I think Fergie will give him more time.

Here it is: http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11667/7639310/Fergie-still-behind-Macheda

Wouldnt mind your unhealthy, sad grudge against Spurs if it were based on fact..but Modric signed a 6 year contract in 2010.

What calendar are you working off then, mine says that if he signed a 6 year contract in 2010(lets assume it was the summer) then in the summer of 2012 it will have 4 years left on it, and last year it would have been 5 years.... almost as if as a year of real time passes on, his contract length has reduced by an equal amount.

I assume on your calendar he either still has 6 years left on it, or maybe its working in reverse time and his contract is now 8 years in length?

Value's of players are dictated by contract length, a player with 1 year left is deemed worth much less than one with two years, etc, etc. The gap between a player with 4 or 6 years left on his contract isn't as big as one with 1 year vs 2 years left, but the gap is still there and he's still worth less.

obvious grudge aside (no idea why, no one's even heard of the team he supports) i think what he meant was this transfer window, he has a year less left contracted with spurs than he did this time last transfer window.

there's a new £100k pw contract to be offered once he has made his mind up. i don't mind if he goes. he has had an inconcistent season but levy will not be fleeced. one sub par season wont have a massive effect with levy negotiating. i mean, just look at what we recouped on crouch, pav, palacios and zokora.

Kagawa looks great. Confident, quick, skilful and aware of whats happening around him and the space available.

Would love to see Kagawa in the AM position with cleverly and someone else in the middle and maybe a new defensive mid behind them. Rooney and Welbeck up front.

If a player wants to give his parent club the best value when he is sold then he will sign a new contract even if he is about to be sold. As already said, someone with 1 year left on their contract is worth a lot less than someone with 4. That doesn't mean that they won't be sold in the slightest.

Football contracts are merely another piece of the puzzle when it comes to transfers. The length affects the value of the player but not necessarily the likelihood of him remaining at the club.

He'll get the number 7.

Yes... so now he has a year less left on his contract, compared to this time last year. It's simple maths... but I can explain the concept further, if you so wish.

To be honest, at his age if he isn't sold in the next few years his value will decrease more from that than the years left on the contract but I do agree to an extent with ScottehBotteh. The difference in value between 4 years left on the contract and 6 is not going to be that much unless they are rather young.

Are people really fapping over a guy who's had his contract expire at a German club because he's good on Fifa and Youtube?

Kagawa? The guy that is at the german champions? The guy who is widely credited as one of the biggest reasons for their success, the guy that has decided that he doesn't want to renew his contract (dortmund want to keep him) because he wants to play in the Premier League?

Hes got nearly a goal every 2 games and an assist every 4 and he isn't a striker. Personally I think he looks very good from what little I have seen and the stats seem to back me up.

Something like 20 goals and 15 assists as a CAM, helped dortmund win a successive title.

So, what is your point?

Please do.

What player, nevermind a 26 year old coming into the prime of his career is devalued for having 'only' 4 years left on a contract ? Its still equal if not longer than most newly signed contracts.

I don't believe Modric is worth 40M+, but hes worth no less than last season.

Thought it was based on more than that personally...

To be fair he has won the last two German League titles, and the 2012 German (FA?) Cup equivelant

Maybe he will be next to useless, but at least it will be an improvement on what Utd have currently (in regards to options if nothing else).

Nevermind eh :D

Its not bad for 31 games...

Mata has:

34 games
6 goals
13 assists

Kagawa:

31 games
13 goals
8 assists

Modric:

36 games
4 goals
4 assists

David Silva:

36 games
6 goals
15 assists

I think Kagawa is certainly worth a punt. The figure being bandied about is around 7-8 million.
