Whether Liverpool are right or wrong to not pay up for Dempsey is not the same as Spurs getting one over Liverpool, which was the original point.

It's not a magic trick to just go in and pay more than someone else, lol. Liverpool could have matched Spurs' higher package, when it came to either player, but they chose not to. Tottenham hasn't done something to 'win' some kind of contest with Liverpool :|.

£6m for dempsey. you could almost have covered it with the adam transfer!

I think the general lack of numbers will hurt you more, Borini might turn out great, personally I can't see Sterling playing the entire season, he's slight and young, fitness will be an issue and you don't want to "Wilshire" him and get him injured as he's growing by overusing him. He looks incredibly promising but you don't want to rely on him or overpressure him. The dutch guy could be good, might not. But you've lost overall numbers upfront, not strengthened at the back with Caragher not getting better, with Gerrard getting less fit, more injury prone and a lot less good, Lucas injured, Spearing who covered a lot sent off on loan and Adam sold.

Look at Liverpool results in a very heavy Europa league first half of the season under Hodgson, and second half of the season without really any cup games, then KK's second season first half europe free, second half two big cup runs, the form in KK's second half of the season is night and day... this year you'll have Europa league, a smaller squad, and with two cup finals an expectation to do relatively well in those as well. I think squad size/depth is going to hurt Liverpool more than lack of winning goals this year.

Well if you want to believe the rumours we turned down 20m for Dzeko and 40m for Balotelli so we could have cashed in and signed him.

I feel that unless Balotelli and Dzeko really step it up this season they will be gone and we will join the bidding war for Falcao.
 
Imagine Dempsey's deal will involve more with add-ons. Probably closer to £8m. Could also include a player yet?? Either way, glad the situation is over. Good signing for Spurs.
