AM4 B350/X370 black screen crash thread

Yeah, I have them as well. It's strange, why would PC be loosing video signal while system is still running fine? Is it really reason of OC stability sign?

I have a lot of them while testing with new CH6 bioses. Mostly when testing memory HCI or RB

Yep, instability. Use a test like occt and turn avx on and watch it rear it's head quicker than it has before.

So I downloaded and started using OCCT. Stressing with AVX black screens as soon as memory allocation hits 90% (default). One stick at a time and both sticks together. Maybe it is a memory issue? Also just crashed using y-cruncher memory tests only during the AVX2 Integer set. Is AVX a blend test of both CPU and memory? Or an indicator of one or the other?

Avx is uses a lot of both. It's an unrealistic workload tbh but it's a good indication of stability.

Ran HCI to 500% with no reported memory issues. Aida CPU only was fine. Aida memory only was fine. Aida FPU only crash in seconds. Aida cache only crash in seconds. Y-crunch crashed during AVX test.

New RAM will be here on Wednesday.
CPU RMA requested. Will see what happens.

I have found Aida to be invaluable in my testing of ryzen. It picks up instabilities really fast and as you found out, it is good at singling components out.
Unfortunately for you it does sound like a CPU issue.

Got my new RAM in. Samsung kit. Tested to no avail just to be sure.

AMD RMA sent off today, so will report back in about a week and a half or so. Maybe 9943 will be out of beta by then.

My more recent black screen issues were almost definitely bios related.

Was unable to run HCI memtest for any length of time without black screen. Even stock.

Reverted back to 1201 and ran about 12 hours overnight at stock.

But am now trying for 3000 ram on 1201 using bclk - and currently getting black screen on attempts.

Starting to hate this system.

I'll need to go back to drawing board.

So, yes, I could pass HCI memtest, so thought would try oc just cpu.

I can get that to pass occt linpack avx, but yeah, black screen.

I'm going to have to remove software as possible culprit, so utterly clean install of Windows 10 with just the couple of stress apps in.

I may just as first test, uninstall afterburner. And must make sure not using Ryzen Power plan

That's what I did. Windows (and windows updates), high performance power plan, chipset driver, graphics driver (AMD card) just in case, and then stress software and nothing else.

Also tried bios 1002 (whatever is second oldest on the C6H portal), 1201, beta 9943, and beta 9945.

Though if you just have to replug graphics maybe our problems are different (I had code 8 on mobo).

Most people on the other overclockers site who get black screen just attribute it to RAM not being stable because it happens when they speed up their RAM. Might just have to wait for the full release of the next bios.

Also agree I almost regret my choice in build. I knew I'd have to tweak a bit, but days..weeks..ugh. Need a working computer for a game coming out mid June.

A few people are starting to recommend googlestressapp to test memory as it can catch instability where HCI might not.

What code on the mobo when you get the black screen?

Do you have NZXT Cam software running?

What code on the mobo when you get the black screen?
Code doesn't change as system is working normally in the background  just video signal disappears. I have normal 24 code.

I also discovered crc error with one of my sticks corsair red led :/ fixed it with elmor spd tool, but it didn't fix the black screens.

Maybe it really is connected to one of the windows updates and 4 non b-die sticks dunno :(

I had a similar problem. The problem was either ryzen power plan or Asus ai suite. I removed them both together so cannot be sure.

hmm, have to try without ryzen power plan as I don't use Asus ai suite.

It sucks that even non RGB ram can be affected to corrupted SPD (this must've been latest corsair link version which added control to lights for AM4 platforms, and I use this software for commander mini to control fans so need to have it).

But yeah similar situation to eyetrip, even after going back to previous bios I have this issue even though it didn't happen before at every memory speed.

I#ll wait for eyetrip to reinstall windows to see if it fix things:)

Am only reinstalling windows after having tried power plan.

I changed a few too many things last night, cause looks like something had worked.

Adjusted couple of voltages, but set power plan to balanced and shut afterburner (and stopped it running with Windows).

Managed to pass couple hour long occt sessions.

Is this still with your memory at 3000?
