Amazon delivered to a neighbour that doesn't exist

Just seen this.

I've recently moved address, about 3 miles down the road and Amazon are demanding a signature for everything.

Ordered a screen protector for my phone, needed a sig, very low value items where at my old address they'd just push it through the letter box.

Have they changed their delivery policies recently?

Got a delivery today, handed me the box and then asked my name, I could have read it off the box, bit daft really, but didn't seem to care and was back in the van before you could blink, must be under so much pressure that quality goes out the window.

They pretty much always do that in my experience - they are under too much pressure to interrogate you first.

I have all my Amazon goods delivered to the Post Office which is on my way home, just picked something up an hour ago and pretty sure I've got a delivery tomorrow.
I've got 3 Amazon drop off points all near me.

Investigation completed

They cannot be serious. I genuinely am speechless. The police will laugh at me AGAIN, they want me to file a police report against a house number street unknown and person unknown LOL

Dear Thomas,

the investigation is completed and we still need the police report. You can always file charges against person's unknown.

Thank you for understanding and your efforts.

Warmest regards,
Birgit Lauf

Charge back time

Wow. I am genuinely surprised by this from Amazon.

How can they expect you to get any sort of comeback or police report from an address that does not exist?

Be warned, if you do a chargeback you will likely get blacklisted from Amazon.

Do you think I'd be happy to use amazon again?

A friend of mine had a similar situation. Ordered a brand new iPhone from GiffGaff. Phone was "delivered" to her neighbour. Neighbour's name and signature is not that of her neighbour. Neighbour says they know nothing about it. 2 or 3 years ago. Never resolved. Never refunded.

She's a legal secretary and still didn't manage to get anything going legal wise.

It's most likely theft by the courier. But the cops just aren't interested.

Having CCTV could help. It proves the courier made no attempt to deliver, so gives Amazon recourse to the courier.

That's crazy, the good thing is the law in on your side in this situations. Police won't be interested as its a civil matter.

Yeah, you'd think so. My mate certainly hasn't found that to be practicable reality.

The problem is it falls right down a gap between it being a civil matter, where all sides are contractually squared off and it being a criminal act, ie a theft. Unless you can prove a theft, the goods have been "delivered" and yes, the cops just aren't interested.

Having CCTV that proves the goods weren't "delivered" is a good thing though.

Finally got a crime reference number / incident number. They found it strange and I do also that amazon are wasting police time with this bs.

Good.

That should hopefully put an end to this.... and yes it's wasting police time because CLEARLY it's an internal theft.... one of their couriers has nabbed it.

Quite the saga... you'd think they could at least google the address to see it doesn't exist to verify your claim... bonkers.

I had an issue with Amazon delivery over Christmas period last year... quite a few items went missing as they tried to deliver a day early when I was still with family & it was marked as delivered to resident, including a signature that had a very well defined pair of initials (I never sign initials & my signature is completely and utterly illegible).

They fought me over it, but as soon as I filed a police report and sent them the crime reference number - I was issued with a refund within a day.
