Amazon Fire TV

I use Kodi over Plex and use none of the addons of Kodi.

Kodi is much better in my opinion for higher bit rate stuff and in general is much more configurable.

Plex is much more out of the box simple and it is good, but for me it is like a simpler cut down version of Kodi that simply goes for transcoding and dumping quality whenever
anything is slightly out of spec.

Oh and for those that do not know Plex was simply a spin off project from what is now Kodi (xbmc) where plex added a back end server to xbmcs front end.

I dont use kodi either, dont need it. already have plex for my media serving/playing. The only other thing kodi offers is a doorway to less than legal content. not interested in that, i'd rather pay for streaming services and support the industry.

So what do you use Plex for?

Less than legal??

I'm sure a recent judge ordered that streaming was legal as long as your not hosting or uploading

Nobody attempted to (although comparing Copywrite infringement with Copywrite infringement seems fairly comparable to me).

You just said you prefer Plex to Kodi because Kodi opens the door to less than legal things, while admitting that you use Plex for less than legal things anyway...

I suggest you put that high horse back in the stable and we get back to talking about Fire TVs and stuff :p;)

You did and you just have again. They are different types of copy write infringement. I have no problems with ripping my own media and playing it however i like. That's not the same as skipping paying it entirely and aquiring a copy by other means. One supports the industry, the other doesnt.

No I didnt. read it again. I said i dont need kodi. It doesnt offer anything I want that plex doesnt already do. Kodi's going to have to grow a back end server at the very least to tempt me to use it, and I'm fortunate enough to have bought a lifetime pass back when they were cheap so no there's really nothing kodi offers that interests me. The other 'feature' is the plugins, genesis etc. Not at all interested in that.

I suggest you stop trying to be a smart arse then.

And CD's, but for a time it was legal, I can only assume that it will become legal again as it is widespread to format shift.

The law has for quite a while said no ripping. In October 2014 they reversed the law allowing 'format shifting', but then in July 2015 they repealed that reversal and returned to it being against the law to rip DVDs and CDs.

Its all rather irrelevant as its almost unenforceable anyway, but my point was that I found it quite funny that james.miller tried to give us this impression that he's a good little boy and 'supporting the industry' by not using Kodi because it does naughty things, yet reveals that he uses Plex to stream illegally ripped DVD content anyway. Just because he thinks its a different 'type' of breaking the law, doesn't make it any less of an illegal thing :p

I'm not going to repeat myself. You need to learn to read.

Has anyone been having trouble with the FireTV remote not responding?

I've changed batteries and cleaned the terminals and it's still not working, fortunately I've been able to use the app on my phone but it's far from ideal.

If that happens, i tend to just point at the device with remote and hold down the home button till it flashes on box.
