Amazon Fire TV

Any of you lot running Kodi on your Fire TV (4k)? Thoughts?

There seems to be plenty of youtube videos showing you how to install it direction from the Kodi website (easily using ES Explorer). Is this the best route?

EDIT: "Hmm, seems it could be linked to having installed Kodi from the app store before it was removed" - Why was the dedicated app removed?

I used adbFire (now called adbLink) to install Kodi on the Fire TV. Didn't need to touch ES File Explorer. I also moved Kodi from the internal storage to the MicroSD card so it doesn't use up so much space. When I checked my Fire TV, it had installed around 5GB of data for Kodi alone! This was freed up once I did the move from internal to microSD. There is a tutorial for this and is very easy to follow.

Probably due to the fact many people have it installed purely to allow them access to pirate material.

Ta!

I've got Plex running fairly happily. How well does Kodi run on the Fire TV? No issue with audio formats (eg: DTS-X) etc?

No issue with audio that I have noticed. But I don't use DTS seeing as I have a soundbar. But audio is good and you can customise it within the settings of Kodi.

On a side note: Anyone having issues launching Kodi from their Fire TV/stick? Everytime I do it, it just loads a black screen or goes back to the main screen. Might give it a re-install and see what happens.

No problem with kodi on my fire stick but I just picked it up at weekend but pretty impressed. Reinstall won't hurt too much

I think it might be the SD card I am using for it. Looks like it's corrupted. The stick works fine after a reboot. But the SD card I use in the 4K TV box itself. Let's hope formatting it helps!

Hi Chaps

Can I find 4K content on my Amazon 4K box? Got a new TV coming tomorrow so want to have the box ready to show in all its glory :D

when i plugged in my new tv the box recognised the higher resolution and started to display a 4k section at the top of my home page, if you try going to tv shows then you might see them in there :)

I have Amazon Video as an app on my smart TV and if I select 'TV' on the main menu menu, the 4K stuff is about the 4th row down.

Great thanks both ....

Anyone installed and configured RetroArch at all? I've setup the SNES9x emulator which runs nicely but Retroarch does pretty much every emulator. Bit of a hassle to set up though it seems.

I've set it up, once you get used to it then it's pretty easy to navigate around. I'm not even using a front end, I just select the games straight from Retroarch.

Ah nice one. I gave up in the end and just use mame4droid and snes9x. I'm not fussed about other emulators really.

How is mame4droid? I have an old 70s arcade cabinet which has a PC I built in 2003(!) and I'm thinking of converting it to a Fire TV setup.

I've had issues with various roms not working and it seems to only like certain versions, or need parent roms more often than other emulators. I've basically dumped the US, EU, U versions in and it seems to eventually work. Apparently it's based on an older version of MAME, though it shouldn't matter for 80s and 90s games apparently.

Give it a shot.

I have a 4k amzon fire tv and previously had firestarter installed- the auto update seems to have got rid of it but i do have Kodi on my home screen like the screenshot here

My internet (Virgin media) has been playing up and the fire tv kicks me out of kodi and wont work unless connected to the internet?

Is there any way to prevent this & allow me to continue playback of local files (NAS)/should i reinstall firestarter? A link to a guide would be appreciated

Thanks
