Amazon Fire TV

Hey all,

I may be looking into getting a Amazon Fire Stick for my TV. I use Netflix native on the TV a lot, but can only get UK content as I can't setup a VPN on my Smart TV.

Has anyone used a VPN on the Fire Stick?

Thanks!
Marky

I wouldn't bother. Netflix have all but clamped down on VPN and SmartDNS stuff. You can't watch anything outside of the UK anymore. There might still be ways around it. But it's at your own risk.

So it seems, sometimes when I come back to use the device, it complains of no Network connection. I have to pull the lead out of the back to get it to connected/work again.

It's wired into a switch with half a dozen other devices all of which of course are fine. I've even switched the port it uses on the switch.

I've raised a ticket with Amazon and awaiting "help"...

Quite impressed with the new 4K version, not that i have a 4k tv mind you. It's installed all the apps i use fine and even Kodi using the Aeon MQ7 skin seems smooth so far, although it was quite slow in installing the skin to the point i thought it had failed until it popped up a while later. Scanning all my drives for the first time is also slow but these things only need done once.

One of the main things i was bothered about was wifi but it's streaming my full blurays over it fine :)

Does the Fire TV support Skype with an external webcam connected? Assume I can use Kodi/Mobdro on there without much trouble...

ps3ud0

Question, do you folks with a Amazon Fire TV turn it off when you've finished?

ie: Hold home and tell it to "Sleep"? Or do you just leave it?

If it's the latter, does it then go to sleep/idle by itself to save power?

ps: I've got the latest 4k Amazon Fire TV.

I just leave it on, it goes into sleep mode after 20mins (30mins for the 1st gen).

OK... And then when you come back to it (eg: select it on your TV) it rewakes all by itself?

The reason I ask is quite often when I came back to my Fire TV it would be complaining of no internet connection. It's hard wired, and to over come this I'd need to pull the power lead out to get it to reboot. Not ideal!

Now this only seems to happen when I tell it to "Sleep". If I just leave it - assuming after 20-30mins it then idles/sleeps until it gets an HDMI hand shake - all seems OK!

Odd, when I wake mine from sleep pressing the home button it wakes instantly with internet connection.
Even in sleep the fire TV always has internet connection.

I check on my router page and its listed in my wifi connected list of devices 24/7.

It doesn't wake itself when i turn the tv on but any button on the remote wakes it.

Hmmm... When I switch my amp/TV to it, I'm fairly sure it appear without me having to press a button on the remote. ie: As if my amp or TV is sending a signal down the HDMI lead "wake up!"

That or worryingly it's not sleeping automatically!

My did work OK sometimes (when I made it "Sleet")... But others I'd be faced with "no internet connection" and have to reboot the device. I've changed the cable, tried it in a different port on the switch, and no other devices using that same switch encounter any connection problems.

Anyone got the new UI update yet? It's supposed to be rolling out now, although i suppose that could be in the US first.
