Amazon Prime - Dont have it then you can wait.

Yes that is the 2 hour delivery one, I think the same day you mention is handled by royal mail

Where you are getting this from? Almost certainly it isn't. Amazon use their own delivery service. I can't imagine Royal Mail coming round with my delivery at 9pm!

It's definitely more frequent than that for me. The get out clause is "Prime Expedited". Aren't all Prime items supposed to be expedited?.. as in expedited so they are next day? What's the point in Prime if it's still taking 4 days? Oh that's right, the point is it would have taken over a week otherwise as it's a two-tier system and I should be thankful I'm in the upper tier. :p

The truth is, I could probably have went to Tesco and picked that cartridge up within an hour. We seem to forget that Amazon has competition and it's sometimes better on price and service.
Not everything Prime is next day, some is just preferential (typically for stuff not directly stocked it seems), it says this before you order.

Wish they'd add the option for DPD or something even for say £1 more, there 7am-7pm would be ok but I've had deliveries at both ends of the spectrum and with no real tracking I'm hesitant to use it unless letterbox sized or it's much cheaper than elsewhere. Use Prime Video a lot though so worth it for me.

Amazon do not always use their own delivery service, it might have changed recently but some of it was handled by Royal mail as they have the infrastructure to turn something like that around in a city.

Since moving to Glasgow I've used the same-day delivery option a couple of times (mostly for the novelty more than anything!), both were via Amazon Logistics.

It makes it very clear on the product page and at the time of ordering what your delivery options are and how quickly it will be delivered, expedited tends to mean they don't have the item in stock for immediate delivery hence the broader delivery date.

They are generally happy to leave in my safe place. ....
I also have Ring Video Doorbell so can just tell them where to leave it :)

you answer the door from work - yes that's cool.
I assume the safe place is not a link back into the John Lewis thread ?

Royal Mail are listed as partners on the Amazon delivery mechanism's page - agree they are at home by 9pm -
but unfortunately no collect+ delivery.

Years back maybe. I can't think I've had anything on Amazon Prime delivered by Royal Mail for a long long time. Definitely not their same day delivery. Can you even use Royal Mail for same day? I expect if you can it's something like a £20 service. Even next day is likely to be £7 on boxed items.

Amazon Prime same day delivery is between 6pm and 10pm, I've never known it to be delivered by Royal Mail either at work in London or at home in the suburbs. Do Royal Mail even deliver after 6pm?

After months of creating new accounts every month we decided to not be so tight and start paying for Prime.

We find it excellent and the added benefit of the video and music service makes it very good value for money.

Never had a problem with deliveries, any Prime deliveries have always been made on the day it is guaranteed by...those who have had issues is it not more to do with the courier?

Why not use the option of the lockers? There are loads so i'm sure there are some you could get to during dinner hours or on the way home.

I tried the locker service once but the code wouldn't work. Looked like the locker machine was stuck in the 'delivery' mode for the Amazon guys to put the stuff in the lockers.

Got a month's free Prime for the hassle...I'm sure that was a one off but I've never used it since because of the hassle!

a more general Amazon query -

Would you buy a TV from them, as opposed to, say, John Lewis - any bad experiences ?
Principally, what is their warranty service like for electronic goods, is is straight back to manufacturer, or do they have tech services in house (Curry's do - no?)

Their warehouse deals seem to have a one year guarantee and I assume claims would be handled in the same way.

If they started offering extended warranty with Prime, that could pursuade me, RS members get/got a better guarantee - no ?

I'm sure it can be a good service if you normally buy a lot from Amazon.

For those of us who only occasionally use them, and prefer to shop around, seeing the "available to Prime members only" stuff that's becoming more and more common is only making us shop elsewhere.

I guess Amazon only wants customers who swear an oath of allegiance to them :p
